Although he has never reached the kung fu heights of Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan's high-vaulting, low-swiping action movies — especially those made on his Hong Kong home soil — have an endearing humour that almost amounts to wit. Sadly, this Raiders of the Lost Ark rip-off exports him to Europe, where he seeks out a crusader's relic and battles some lethal monks. As director as well as star, his style is not so much cramped as numbed.

    Jackie Chan delivers again

This is a really good Jackie Chan movie. The stunt's performed in this movie are mind blowing, especially when you think of the fact that Jackie performs his own stunts.

The only thing about the movie which is slightly bad, is that it is dubbed rather badly, but not to despire cause you will be to busy enjoying the movie for what it is.

Good all round plot, featuring a young Jackie Chan.

    A pain in the head.

This is by far one of jackie chan's technically superior films, the stunts, martial arts and fx are awesome. see also operation condor, the sequel. jackie almost died making this film, and now has a metal plate in his head as a result.

    Don't forget the fight scenes...

All reviews I've seen for this have mentioned the stunts but not the fighting. I think the fight scenes between Jackie and the monks and later, the 3 black women are amongst some of the best I've seen in his non-Hong-Kong films. Actually, from what I remember, the film saves most of his fighting for the last section.

But yes, he did have a very serious accident in the film jumping onto a tree which I think he thought would be simple. Luckily for us, he survived!

    DUBBING!!!

This was your standard Jackie Chan movie, with all the action and stunts that he is renowned for, but the dubbing in English was terrible!!

This really spoilt the movie experience, hence the 2 star rating.

    Armour of God

Asian Hawk (Chan) used to be a pop singer along with friend Alan (Tam) but now he's an Indiana Jones style fortune hunter. When Alan's girlfriend (Kwan), also Hawk's ex, is kidnapped he and Alan must retrieve all three pieces of the Armour of God as a ransom for the corrupt group of monks who hold her.

Every time he does a film Jackie Chan does things that could quite easily kill him. He fell off a clocktower in Project A (actually he did three takes of that one), he slid down a long pole lined with lightbulbs in Police Story and he's been injured countless times, dislocating bones you never thought you could dislocate (the sternum). He's only come close to dying in one stunt though, a raher simple one on this film. Jumping out of a tree from about 15 feet up Chan missed his target, the cameraman rolled out of the way to avoid being landed on and Chan landed on a rock, cracking his skull. Fortunately he was able to get emergency brain surgery, though he still has a plastic plug stopping the hole in his head.

Armour of God did get finished though and there's little in it to suggest that its star and director had nearly lost his life early in the schedule as Chan still executes some truly breathtaking stunts.

It's not, sadly, one of Chan's best but Armour of God does have some real standout sequences. The opening sequence isn't so much inspired by Indiana Jones as it is a direct lift but it's strong with some great stunts and the same exuberant action feel as the Indy films captured. Sadly after this the film settles into a largely action free midsection which throws too much focus on a bland Alan Tam (whose introduction, with an enitre canto-pop song, is truly a test of endurance). The ending set piece does, as ever, liven things up with Jackie fighting four female opponents as well as some monks before diving off a cliff onto a hot air baoon and sliding down the baloon into the basket (something he did for real, mere months after his operation).

Aside from the action this isn't a great film but there's enough decent action and endearing performances from Jackie and Spanish model Lola Forner to recommend it.

    Pre hollywood class

This film clearly shows the difference that Hollywood has on his films. The stunts were amazing, displayed by his accident when jumping into a tree. How the man gets away with half of his stunts without serious injury is beyond me.

    Jackie Does Indiana.

Influenced by the Indiana Jones movies, this has Jackie playing Condor, a relic finder for the highest bidder. In this film he has to find the legendary Armour Of God. This is a wham bang action comedy with some great fights, but most importantly some fantastic stunts. The jump onto a hot air balloon at the end has to be seen to be believed, and Jackie actually did this stunt by jumping from a helicopter.

Interestingly though, it was a much simpler stunt that went wrong where Jackie nearly died making this film.

A class act from start to finish, this is one not to miss. Ignore the dreadful dubbing, just take in the quality of the entertainment.
