Hugely entertaining and educational...
By a customer from Wales , 07 Jul 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Michael Palin sets out recreate the Journey by fictional Phileas Fogg, to travel around the world in eighty days using only land and sea.
Michael has the knack of injecting his pythonesque humor into any situation throughout the series, on what was quite clearly a very difficult journey to undertake.
The series is based upon Michaels own personal diaries made throughout the journey and is intended to be a warts and all documentary, highlighting not only the many achievments but also the many setbacks encountered along route.
The pack consists of 3 DVDs containing seven 50 minute programes plus a post shooting interview with Michael. The picture quality whilst still very good is not quite up to normal DVD standards, and the sound track is recorded in mono (hence four not five stars).
These minor short comings should not deter you from buying this fantastic series at all.- Was this review helpful to you?

(29)If you've never seen this, you really ought to!
By jas1327 (5 reviews) from Bromsgrove , 19 Jun 2011I never watched this when it was first broadcast on television back in the late 80's, and am glad now to have finally sat and watched this through.
3 discs of the modern day attempt to copy Phileas Fogg , this must have been a nightmare to edit, but its all been packaged together very nicely. Follow Michael every step (and journey) of the way, get to see some of the local cultures of the world, all mixed in with Michaels wit and good humour along the way.
Well worth watching, and although now 20 years old, its not too dated. And for those who have never seen it but want to know, did Michael manage to get around the world in 80 days??? Ah.. that would be telling!!- Was this review helpful to you?
