Arrested Development - Season 2

The Bluth family returns for another season of life after credit cards, in this revolutionary award-winning comedy. Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) is the voice of reason in the midst of a blue-blood clan of crazies who have become acclimated to the life of luxury due to the fortune earned by patriarch George Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor) in the tract-housing business. When George is arrested on charges of tax fraud, however, the family's assets are frozen, and the resulting life of relative poverty proves difficult in many unexpected ways. Matriarch Lucille (Jessica Walter) is an emotionally stunted alcoholic, who in season two hires a bounty hunter to find George Sr., who has run off to Mexico maybe. The Bluth siblings include Lindsay (Portia de Rossi), a socialite whose multitude of causes serves to further her own social career; Gob (Will Arnett), a womanising illusionist; and Buster, a mama's boy who spends his time pursuing a nebulous career as a grad student. Lindsay is married to Tobias (David Cross), an out-of-work actor and former doctor whose sexuality remains undefined. Michael, in addition to tending to the foibles of his siblings, spends much of his time trying to be a good dad to his earnest 14-year-old son, George Michael (Michael Cera). Season two also sees Buster joining the Army, Lucille getting tricked into rehab, and the Bluth Banana Stand getting rebuilt, while Lindsay's anti-depressants turn out to have hallucinogenic properties.

It was Buster that hit her, I just gave her the roofie.

The english language does not contain superlatives adequate enough to describe this show. It is up there with the Simpsons, Blackadder and Monty Python as the greatest comedy shows ever. It might even be better.

I am a profoundly humourless individual and my soul died many years ago, but there was one scene, in which Gob gives a speech about sexual harrassment to the Bluth company employees, where the following happened to me: I laughed. I then started to make a sort of weird honking laugh. I then fell off my chair and whacked my knee extremely hard. I was in agony, but it was so funny I was also incapable of stopping my hysterical laughter, so I ended up rolling around on the floor, squealing like a pig having an orgasm. I genuinely started to worry that I might require medical attention for hysteria.

    Watch it.

    Seriously, do.

    Brilliantly funny

For anyone who has not seen this, you should. I am not a huge fan of sitcoms, but this is a cut above the rest. About an entirely dysfunctional family, every character is brilliantly hilarious. The writing is clever, the acting effortless and each episode provides a genuine laugh a minute. My personal favourite is the socially inept Buster, unable to cut the cord with his mother whose smothering results in a bout of panic attacks. Each character has their own quirky charm - Tobias who is a 'never nude'; George Michaels unforbidden attraction to rebelious cousin Maeby; Lucille the matriarch who is manipulative, hypocritical and a raging alcoholic. The entire series is a must see for those who love off beat, laugh out loud humour. Listen out for Ron Howards commentary.
