    [Highly rated reviewer]

I haven't been this disappointed in a movie in a long time. It is absolute rubbish! Even without the unavoidable comparison to the classic original, for me, this movie fails on every level.

Brand's high-pitched, unattractive Arthur is irritating, unlikeable, unsympathetic and, worst of all, unfunny. I get the feeling Brand thinks he's a lot funnier than he really is and there seems to be no one around to tell him any different.

Certainly not the director, Jason Winer, who seems unable, from scene to scene, to reign in his star's self-conscious and way-off-the-mark performance.

And as for Helen Mirren, well, I can only hope that someone had a gun at her head when she signed up for this and that she kept telling herself 'Think of the money' as she sleep-walked through it, because that's exactly what it looks like.

Do yourself a favour and don't waste your time watching this.

Let's get it out into the open...Brand is just plain irritating...it's that nasal mockney accent he's got or something to do with SWAG or whatever...anyway, the plot of this film isn't bad but everytime he came on screen I wanted to vomit...seriously, I'd rather be waterboarded...

I saw the original and hated it! So I'm doubtful about the remake. That's it pick Russell Brand for his ridiculous English accent for the American audiences. How an earth has he got a Batmobile??! 'We're going to prison!' 'How can you explain your frivolous spending during a recession?!' I think even by Russell Brand's standards he's too extreme in this film. I do think the Butler in the original was far superior to Brand's nanny. 'I hate the real world Hobson. - I'll work from bed today if you don't mind!' 'Don't worry Arthur. It won't take long. - Then we'll watch cartoons!' 'You know you're the only man I slept with who broke up with me.' 'I'm aware that our relationship has never been ideal.' Well Arthur is certainly a ladies man! - (Just like Brand!) 'Susan Johnson..You're going to marry her Arthur.' Just like the original the plot is really weak. 'I don't respect you Arthur. But I do applaud your talent for self preservation.' I think Brand is trying to do a Jim Carrey performance, (in one of his naff films), but he can't quite pull it off. I do like Brand as a comedian sometimes and in some of his films, but this performance.. geeze!! This film is so bad I'm basically looking at other internet sites and just periodically watching it! 'I don't date boys who have nannies!' He's got the Back To The Future Car!! lol 'Did you put this building here, just so you could spy on me?!' 'Just a cauldron of taquila and a spoon!' I know I keep going on about it, but this film is really annoying!! 'I don't know why I did all those things there. - I go crazy when I'm in love.' This romantic story growing is so unconvincing. - Certainly not a patch on the original! 'Welcome to the life of humans!' '-The lesson being why bother taking care of yourself!' She's quite a quirky lady! 'What is this?!' - 'This is your engagement photo for Town And Country Magazine.' 'They sneer when I walk past!' - 'That's probably because of who you are as a person!' 'I think Arthur understands more than you realise!' Surely people walked out of the cinema when this was on!! Goodness the love story between Arthur and Naomi is so rubbish and cringe worthy!! 'I couldn't tell her Hobson. - She's my toad!' 'Please you can't go half an hour without buying another sportscar!' 'No. You can't do it and you never will!' I didn't like the original but the original is far superior!! 'Arthur may I have a word with you?!' - 'Is that word promotion?!' So if you're a multi-millionaire why on earth would you get a jub job???!!!!! 'This is depressing, its like unhappy hour!' 'It was lovely what you said in there. - Now if you could just do the drinking for me, we'd have this thing cracked!' 'I'm trapped by the money!' When Arthur goes to leave Naomi's flat and he walks into the closet its the first genuine laugh (for me), nearly one hour ten minutes in!! 'He's getting married.' - 'But is it right for him Vivian?!' - 'He's weak.' 'He's stronger than you think!' Interestingly the second hour of the film is much improved. - I. e. Arthur aka Brand is quite funny! 'Naomi. If there's one thing an old woman can recognise its a young man in love.' 'If you have to pay its not love!' 'Why would you buy them?! - So you could tell them to publish my book..' Naomi interestingly kinda reminds me of Katie Perry.. 'Please let me look after you.' Spaghetti circles nice??!!!! 'You should have gone. - I'd have understood.' 'Proud day for you Viv?!' '..Time to man up Arthur!' 'I mean who are you?!' - 'I'm your best man!' 'Even you deserve better than this!' CR*P! 'Okay well - I'm gonna be poor now!' Once again - CR*P!! Its only when Brand is in the AA meetings at the end you see Brand being Brand. Yeh because giving up an absolute fortune makes you happy!!!! '.. And I think that's the end of the story!'

Basically this is the Russell Brand show, but it is quite funny if you like his style & character. Not as good as the Dudley Moore original but it's not bad. probably a remake that didn't need making but if you want to watch a reasonbly humorous comedy then this is will do the trick.

Brilliant - it makes a change to get a remake better than the original. I suspect there is far too much of Arthur in Russell Brand anyway which is why it makes him such as great casting.
