Having read all the Asterix books as a child, I have viewed (along with my two boys aged 7) all the Asterix films available and with mixed results. Others aside, this is a true rendition from the book and well drawn and the film has captured the spirit of Asterix and all the other characters.
This is a wonderful film. Plenty of action and physical fun for children, and plenty of humour for adults eg SMS the message carrying pigeon. We watched this as a family and thoroughly enjoyed it. It should appeal to Asterix and Obelix fans old and new.
Asterix, for those not familiar with the comic books, is a little warrior from gaul (roman france), who is never far from his friend and companion Obelix, and their pet dog - dogmatix. Based during the roman empire and at the time of julius ceaser, Asterix and obelix live in a little village in Brittany, which so happens to be the only village that has managed to resist the might of the roman army. Thanks, in no small part, to the village druid vitaminfix (getafix), who brews a magic potion giving the village warriors superhuman strength. The haphazard roman army know this, and try to give the gauls a wide berth, except when ordered to go into battle by one of their generals from rome. (needless to say, thanks to the potion, battles always end in a pile of bruised moaning romans!)

Spot on for all Asterix fans. Not to be missed.

A bit too hollywoodized and overdramatic, seems more like a crass teenage remake, skip it unless you are a 16-year-old waiting for your prince.
This is for kid's and grown ups, with a hint of grown up humour.
I had rented via Amazon rental services for the kids.
Not knowing if modern day kids will find the basic 2-D cartons
any good, considering Shrek and many new great looking 3-D offered.
The film is great, funny, a good story that most will enjoy.
I hope more DVD stories are offered, worth buying and worth renting out.
Runs for 1 hrs, offering 5.1 Dolby digital, with good picture quality.
Just 1 dvd, no second dvd with extra, is the only down side.
Thanks for reading..
Basically, if you like me read the comics and saw the old cartoons you will find this a bit boring. I didn't like it.

Brilliant characterisation in true Asterix style. Appeals to both the boys (obligatory yet comical fight scenes) and the girls (a love story with a twist and even the occassional fascinating dance scenes). Love the way they put a comical twist on what's modern and cool to youngsters now and re-translated it into Asterix's time. Very enjoyable.
