    [Highly rated reviewer]

While I agree this is a very important topic and a film like this needs to be shown to audiences in India, the lack of quality in the way the topic is presented lets it down for a western audience, namely the poor quality of acting and dialogue. The audience are spoon-fed what is right and wrong and you almost feel you are being lectured to. There are more intelligent ways to put forward the same argument which allow the audience to use their minds and think a little bit more. As Indian films are behind in quality compared to their western counterparts it is a good attempt to tackle a subject which should have been dealt with many years ago. As a female, I found the women in the film slighlty irritating and found it hard to be sympathetic towards them.Overall watchable but not good.

first of all its funny how tabu's name is not mentioned in the artist when she is the main character and defi acted very well!!! its a shame that this kinda movies do much better in the west then in india itself!!! its a very different kind of movie which some ppl might find slow n boring but its the idea behind it all which works well!!!

  • Subtitles suck

It is an interesting, even though predictable movie, with a topic that is a big deal in Indian society and a daily routine in Western.

Although they were not really necessary to understand the movie the subtitles in this DVD suck big deal. They are written white on bottom of the movie and since many protagonists wear white clothes it is often impossible to read them...and they are wrong in many cases anyway.

The movie itself is well acted compared to most other Bollywood productions but I too recommend it for an Indian audience only, otherwise one will just wonder where the problem actually is.

  • Very good movie

This movie tells us about typical Indian men's mentality towards Indian women. It sadly portrays Indian women's quiet behaviour and sacrifices towards their own physical and mental satisfaction.

How a man wants to control a woman, is show in the first half of the movie.

The best part is, when movie takes a sharp turn after first-half.

The movie shows how the woman tries to fight all the odds in a very realistic manner and how she finds her own Identity, that's what Astitva means in Hindi Language.

It's a MUST watch movie for people who believe in patience as we all know, Indian movies are quite a lot time consuming.

Well overall recommendation is MUST WATCH.

    Cheers
