What a strange little curiosity. By its very nature, this game will alienate a lot of people. Its more of a 6-7 hour TV series than a game, with the tale of the vengeful god Asura being split into very conspicuous episodes.

Actual gameplay is basically a string of cutscenes and QTEs broken up by rail shooting and (very) basic combat brawling in the style of god of war (though it doesnt even have god of war's depth, let alone something like bayonetta).

So on paper this game sounds rubbish, right? Well, not really. To its credit, the game never tries to be anything other than a fist-pumping tale of revenge, and the structure fits the one-note nature of the protagonist and his quest for vengeance almost perfectly. And the story it tells is told with aplomb and enthusiasm, coupled with an excellent graphical style that almost seems pencil-shaded (like a manga come to life) thanks to some fantastic texture and modelling work.

The game never claims to be more than it is, and it fulfils what it sets out to fulfil very well. You hate the baddies, you sympathise with the hero. You cheer when he wins fights, you boo when the baddies do something bad. Its hard to fault it, and while the gameplay itself lacks depth (panzer dragoon has nothing to fear from the rail shooting, and Devil may cry and bayonetta are miles better than this game's combat) it controls well and no fight ever lasts long enough to outstay its welcome.

Basically, its the perfect rental. A blast while it lasts and it has some moments that will stick in the mind, but with no real depth or replayability.

I was loving this game .. I say, it's more of a great movie with button presses in between. Anyway I was loving this rental and would have given it a higher score but then I found out you have to download dlc to find out how its ends, ended up just watching the end on youtube, still worth a rental though

I had high hopes for this game but upon 'playing' it I found that it gets real boring real quick. It's pretty to look at and the stories fairly decent but what little gameplay there is wasn't engaging enough to me the 'player' and I ended up stopping playing after I finished the second part. If you're a fan of Super Saiyans you'll probably get quite a kick out of Asuras Wrath but sadly, as a gamer who puts gameplay before all else this 'game' failed to captivate me.

Fantastic game, the storyline is gripping, the gameplay is flawless, the graphics and artwork are beautiful and I found myself being drawn back to play it a second and third time.

The only reason I have game this game 4 stars and not 5 is because the game on the disc isn't the complete story, in order to play the full Asuras wrath storyline DLC costing 560MSP is required to access part 4. That being said the story without the DLC is still excellent, I myself purchased the DLC because the game had gripped me that much and I needed to play the true ending that how good it is.

I recommend this game to anyone who likes good solid action games or a gamer who is also a fan of manga and anime.

I was very sceptical at first before I rented the game but I am glad I gave it a chance, could not recommend highly enough.

Don't get me wrong, it was quite a fun game once it lets you play. But to me it just felt like i was watching an anime with QTE's and let me do the fighting sections. Quite fun and some of the actions are amazing but i wouldn't get this if you are looking for a action game. Amazing story and it has some replayability.

A great game to rent but you may be disappointed if you buy it.
