Absolutely the most boring film ever! I'm a literary student and usually love adaptations but this film is so slow moving. Dont go there!

There was nothing to strongly like or dislike throughout the film! A decent performance by the main leads Knightley and McAvoy with enough dramatic tension to drive the film to a reasonable finish.

  • Thought I'd hate it but loved it

I'd avoided this film for ages because of Keira Knightly. She does her usual jutting-jawed schtick and she's fortunately not in it that much, leaving all the more time to enjoy the fantastic cinematography. This is a subtle movie with lots of things unsaid but felt intensely. Sexual tension, jealously you name it are conveyed amazingly well without words. It's a story about love, class, lies and honesty and about story telling in every sense. James McAvoy is superb, and the five minute camera sequence on the war torn beach towards the end is magnificent. The only thing that jarred for me was Vanessa Redgrave's performance which didn't ring true and she reminded me a bit of Gollum as she gazed into the camera. I sound really down on actresses! It's just down to personal taste and the way she came across didn't feel right as her character had really grown and changed during the course of the film. Well worth watching the 'making of the movie' extra on the dvd, to gain more insight. I loved this film, a real jewel of a movie.

OK film, worth a watch, as with most films the ending is disappointing, having said that, my son loved it.

Quite simply one of the best movies I've watched in a long time. Having read the book, I can honestly say that the movie exceeded my expectations. It was as good, if not better than the book. Brilliant.

Have to watch every minute to understand what is happening and I am more than a little disappointed with the ending. It's not what I thought it would be.
