August Rush - Tear jerker! Settle down on the settee with a drink and chocolate.
By a customer from Wales , 01 Apr 2008[Highly rated reviewer]
A lovely film, nicely shot, and produced; with the right level of sentimentality. It cannot be other than predictable, but having said that, it takes you on an interesting journey and produces the right level of lumps in your throat to keep you engaged. The performances (all but Robin Williams) are convincing, and the lead Freddie Highmore, as the young music prodigy, delivers a sparkling performance. Good clean family entertainment, with some pauses, but all in all worth viewing for the emotion it portrays alone.- Was this review helpful to you?

deeply inspirational
By jarobelle (3 reviews) , 27 Dec 2012This is a movie operating at three levels - yes it is an emotional family drama as commented by most, excellently acted and directed, and yes it is about music and the importance of this in many lives, as commented on by some, but beneath this it is a movie about the importance of following one's own passion and inner drive and not letting the highs and lows of living diminish this and distract you from this. Like some reviewers I rate this as an all time great, one that I have watched three times and will watch again and again.- Was this review helpful to you?

Absolutely Delightful and Uplifting!
By Chrisaljack (321 reviews) from Hellingly , 04 Aug 2012One of the most delightful and uplifting films I have ever seen - and I have seen thousands over the last 70 years! Yes, the tale is a little far-fetched, but it is beautiful in its execution, the actors are superb (even Robin Williams as a bullying child exploiter), Freddie Highmore totally innocent and delightful (as an 11 year old should be!), Keri Russel (who actually plays the cello) and Jonathan Rhys Meyers(who does his own singing). The music is brilliantly chosen and played and helps move the story along perfectly. I had never heard of the film before I rented it totally on the basis of a trailer on another hired dvd and have since bought it so we can watch it over and over again!- Was this review helpful to you?
