A lovely film, nicely shot, and produced; with the right level of sentimentality. It cannot be other than predictable, but having said that, it takes you on an interesting journey and produces the right level of lumps in your throat to keep you engaged. The performances (all but Robin Williams) are convincing, and the lead Freddie Highmore, as the young music prodigy, delivers a sparkling performance. Good clean family entertainment, with some pauses, but all in all worth viewing for the emotion it portrays alone.
If you like fairy tales then this will appeal. A modern day Oliver Twist, baby given away at birth after spending 11 years in a childrens home runs away, following the music in his head. My 10 year old enjoyed it, I thought it was ok, nice ending if unbelievable, but then it is a fairy tale. I do like Rhys Meyers generally but not right for this part, accent a bit dodgy. Keri Russell was very wooden and spent most of the time staring into space.
The story of a young boys journey to find his parents by following the music. An unbelievable but still moving modern fairytale. Great performances throughout, a wonderful soundtrack. I would recommend this film.
This is the first time I have written a review, despite renting lots of films. I would (and have) recommended this film to my friends. The actors are all great in this and if you like just a simple story and easy watch, but with a good, heartwarming storyline, this is one for you. I watched the last scene three times!!
It was very good, takes a while to get going, and I honestly thought I was going to lose interest in it, but after the first ten minutes, got really into it, and thoroughly enjoyed it. When we sent it back, we went out and bought it the next day. Really Good.

ok here goes if you can believe this girl meets boy 1 night haves baby does not meet boy again for 10 years baby given up for adoption by her father without her knowledge in the eighties in new york kid runs off to new york do you know what i can"t go on it was so dull the first time and so full of holes and the kid well i wanted him too stay lost ps the music awwwwwwwwful good luck if not put off by this review some people liked it
The trailer on this film was alot better than the actual film, simply because the plot was unlikely and ludicrous. Talk about corny, saccharine, schmaltzy nonsense!! This film is all that in spades!!! AVOID! And if you must see it, do it on an empty stomach!
This began well with a voice over of young Freddy Highmore explaining the affect music had on him. Then it switched to 11 years earlier and a very raucous, loud pop music concert followed by a very sentimental scene on a roof top. We came to the conclusion that this was a film for the younger generation and stopped watching it- putting on 'Kolya' filmed in the Czech Republic which won all sorts of awards instead. Much more to our liking!
trying to be a modern day Oliver, Robin Williams, when are you gonna retire?
The viewer is expected to believe a cart load of coincidences and impossibilities. Loosely based on Oliver Twist with the surprising but wasted talent of Robin Williams as the Fagin-like character. The best thing about this film is that it is only 1 hour 45 mins long; the worst thing about this film is that it is 1 hour 45 minutes long.
Had no idea what this film was about, children had ordered. Sat back not expecting much however I was totally captivated by the story line and on the edge of my seat for the last 15 minutes! Fantastic family film. BEST FILM WATCHED IN AGES AND A MUST TO HIRE!
