Or you can rent each disc individually:
Disc 1 of this set is fairly comprehensive in that it covers performances by all the winners up to 2001 when Marius Brenciu sensationally took both the Lieder (song) prize and the Singer of the world trophy.
Disc 2 features all the lieder prize winning performances and my personal highlight is Bryn Terfel's rendition of 'The Dutchman's Aria'.Even though Bryn lost out to Dmitri Hvorostovsky for the main prize,Bryn took the Lieder prize and has never looked back.
There is also an interesting and lively documentary on the history of 'Cardiff Singer'.A clip to avoid is the embarrassingly staged 'Battle of the Baritones',a reunion between Bryn and Dmitri where they discuss their 1989 meeting in Cardiff.
Sound and picture quality on this disc are exemplary in the usual BBC Opus Arte manner.
Just one complaint! Why didn't Bryn win?!
