Good clean family fun. A classic Sunday afternoon film. I enjoyed it, it made by teenage son laugh and my seven year old daughter. Arthur's undersized and under rated. It's a lot funnier than some other film of that genre, like Will Hay. It's not art, it's not clever, its simply funny. I thank you.- Was this review helpful to you?

(4)Long Past It's Sell By Date.
By Cato (703 reviews) from Lydbury North , 06 May 2011Afraid I had to give up on this one before the end. I must admit I never really liked Arthur Askey when I listened to him in Workers' Playtime on the Light Programme as a youngster. Never really found him very funny at all. Anyway, I was prepared to give the film a chance, old black and white wartime and all that, but oh my gosh it was bad. The acting was all performed in an agressively strident fashion, even the little girl who has to stay in the lighthouse with Arthur (?). The plot is convulsively frenetic, almost like a bad dream, and as for any humour, well let's say it's time has long since gone. Only to be watched by compulsive Askeyites I think.- Was this review helpful to you?

WATCH THE GHOST TRAIN INSTEAD
By a customer from NORFOLK , 28 Feb 2007I WANT TO LIKE ALL ARTHUR ASKEYS FILMS BUT I CANT.THE GHOST TRAIN IS THE BEST AND IVE SEEN IT THREE TIMES.
THIS FILM HOWEVER 'BACK ROOM BOY' HAS A FEW SMILES AND ONE LAUGH IN IT.ARTHUR IS WORKING ON A LIGHTHOUSE AND HAD GIVEN UP WOMEN.EVENTUALLY MOORE MARRIOTT AND GRAHAM MOFFET TURN UP(THE OLD CODGER AND FAT BOY FROM WILL HAY FILMS)BUT THEY DONT ARRIVE SOON ENOUGH AND HAVE TOO LITTLE TO DO.
THE LITTLE GIRL WHO IS ARTHURS LITTLE HOUSEKEEPER WASTES SCREEN TIME .TIME THAT OTHER COMIC ACTORS SHOULVE TAKEN UP.
A FILM FOR DEVOTEES ONLY.- Was this review helpful to you?
