Small budget, Dark Humour
By a customer from Weymouth, Dorset, Uk , 24 Jan 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
The first film directed and starring Peter Jackson, I first watched this many moons ago on Vhs, and remember laughing, and quoting lines from the movie for weeks after. Rented this title to see if the 'ol magic was still there after seeing Jackson blossom after this movie came out with titles like Frighteners and Lord of the Rings, and I can safely say it was as funny this time round as last. Classic dark humour, and dodgy special effects, but remembering Jackson paid for this movie himself, and borrowed a mates house to film the finale this is what film making is all about. Brilliant!- Was this review helpful to you?

(68)total and utter rubish
By Minty8 (196 reviews) from Randalstown, Antrim , 29 May 2011I kept watching just because this is a classic (well as such) but I thought it was a bunch of rubbish. I know it was meant the way it was but it was just horrible to watch for the acting and effects etc. Unless you like B-Movie type horrors don't go near it, Jackson has come a long way to reach Lord Of The Rings and King Kong- Was this review helpful to you?

"Aren't I lucky, I got a chunky bit!"
By wikkidsmyle (438 reviews) from Newmarket , 04 Dec 2009I've owned the R1 THX-certified version of this 'labour of love' movie from the mighty Peter Jackson for years and I'll never tire of it. It's mad, bad and dangerous to know: a typical student film (save the absence of 'totty'), with more witty dialogue and crazy characters than you can wave a stick at, and a gross quota that is off the scale (though topped by his other inpired offering, 'Braindead'). Made to appeal the 'beer and pizza' brigade, though a strong stomach is called for, for some of the scenes are REALLY gross (especially the one from which my review title quota is taken from)! Reserve it!! You know you want to!!- Was this review helpful to you?

This is no Braindead
By a customer from Dalton , 14 Jul 2009If you are thinking of renting this because you really liked Braindead and want to see more of the same I wouldn't bother! Just not in the same league, all the lo tech gross outs but just not as funny or eye poppingly silly which is what I was after.- Was this review helpful to you?

Just Genius...Pure genius
By a customer from Boston UK , 22 Jan 2009To say that this director went on to make (one of) the best trilogies in film in history and acclaimed Drama Heavenly Creatures and Gore-tastic Braindead shows that his debut film would of course be something to remember and it really is.
Wonderfully cheap and funny it is the type of film you and your friends would love to make and will love to watch. The glorious, over the top (and sometimes so well done you can't work out how they did it!!) special effects are great and the story is impressively good for a debut film. In the long run well made great fun and totally in 'Bad Taste'!!- Was this review helpful to you?

Utterly hilarious, in the worst possible (violent) taste!
By a customer from Hamilton , 16 Jan 2009The title works on two levels, being appropriate to the plot and letting you know that this film is utterly utterly hilarious in the worst possible violent taste. The film is great fun, never takes itself seriously, and is full of some of the best low budget effects gags since Romero's original zombie flicks. A highly recommended watch!- Was this review helpful to you?
