A classic for all age-groups and all time. The Disney animation of Felix Salten's book is peerless. It's about a young deer growing up in the forest alongside a timid skunk and a scene-stealing rabbit, Thumper, a ground-drumming creature — just as the film is a ground-breaker for its filming of shades of black on black. The death of Bambi's mother is still a heart-piercing event. However, musical numbers such as Love Is a Song and Little April Showers lift the heart with an affirmation for life that supervising director David Hand maintains throughout.

Not ready to retire
I can't believe Bambi is 65 years old. If you really need to know Bambi is a story of how Bambi (a deer), orphaned at a young age, grows up. There's not an enormous story but it is compelling all the same. The animation techniques used back then are far different from today for obvious reasons, but this doesn't detract from the film itself. The kids sit just as glued to this as Shrek or Flushed Away.

Still the best
It may not be the cleverest, but it's certainly the most enchanting of all the Disney cartoons. This is a must for anyone with young children....I'm a pensioner,and watched it in 1942, but I'm still young at heart !!
