In this delightful comedy, adapted by Neil Simon from his hit Broadway show, Robert Redford (who appeared in the stage play) and Jane Fonda star as the young married couple attempting to achieve newly wedded bliss. Redford is a joy in a reasonably rare comic role, though Mildred Natwick almost steals the show as Fonda's mother. It's handled well by director Gene Saks (he also made The Odd Couple), who maintains the humour and a lively pace until about half an hour from the end.
Breezy but overlong adaptation of a stage play which succeeded through audience response to its one-liners, which on the screen sometimes fall flat. The people are nice, though.
A charming romantic comedy. Redford and Fonda star as complete opposites who marry and move into a fifth floor apartment (no elevator), that is tiny. Comedy ensues. Yes it's dated, but they have great support from Fonda's mother and the upstairs neighbour, Mr Velasco.
Watch it for when Redford was at his peak of ruffled hair perfection, and when Fonda was quirky, not militant or aerobic.
I was really looking forward to watching this as a Robert Redford fan, but it was terrible. I've never not liked a film enough to switch it off, but this one was the first. The plot ..... erm what plot?? I thought it was going to be a serious film, but I think it's trying to be a comedy, needless to say it's not that funny. All I can say is watch it at your peril!! There is nothing wrong with Redford's acting, it's just a really naff story!
Fresh from the Sundance Film Festival, screen legend Robert Redford is reportedly in talks to produce and star in an adaptation of A Walk In The Woods, the best-selling travelogue by Bill Bryson. The book charts Bryson's attempt to walk the Appalachian Trail, which stretches 2,174 miles from Georgia in America's south to Maine in the north-east. The Hollywood Reporter says Redford, star of film classics The Sting, Barefoot In The Park and Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid, is now in... Read more
