Bathory: Murderess or victim?

I have just finished watching this and have to say it's not what I expected!

This woman is documented as a murderess from numerous sources and yet the film seems to have decided she was merely a victim of nasty, money-grabbing men who simply wanted her fortune.

If you read the historical facts on the internet, the story is quite different - see, for instance, the article written and displayed on the Triond site by a writer known as Jackie118 who does a lot of historical articles. This writer seems to have researched the internet and portrayed the facts as they are known, and she did it before this film was released too! (I just found out you can 'Google' Jackie118 if you wish)

Now I have seen this portrayal of Bathory's life, I do not know what to believe but I do know the film was rather badly done, in my opinion. It seems to me they heard about the other film being made about this woman and rushed to release theirs first!

I shall wait and watch the second Bathory film, soon to be released, called 'The Countess' before I finally decide...

Possibly closer to the truth than you may think

Having read a review by another user, I was thinking hmmm, maybe this isn't going to be that great a film. But as a history student I view things in a slightly different way to most.

She is known as one of the most brutal murderes in history, but that is how records are interpreted by some. Maybe what we read as fact is not. Maybe she was a victim of the cruelty of men, as she was a strong women.

I would use the example of the reputation of Richard the 3rd as an example of history being misread, as many opinion of him are based on Shakespears play.

Over all I thought it was a fantastic historical drama, which may be much closer to the real story than many would like to believe.
