If the original Spencer Gordon Bennet serial was a disappointment, its sequel was nigh on a disaster. With Lewis Wilson and Douglas Croft consigned to well-merited obscurity, Robert Lowery and John Duncan assumed the mantles of Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson, while Lyle Talbot stepped in as Commissioner Gordon. However, there's little suspense in their pursuit of the Wizard, a master criminal out to secure the diamonds needed to operate the ray gun he's stolen from eccentric professor, William Fawcett. Made in a hurry and on the cheap, this is the undoubtedly the nadir of the Caped Crusader's screen career.

Batman and robin is one of the worst films ever made. Period. It is so bad that you find yourself watching it in horror for 2 hours. Its like watching a car accident unfold, you cant tear your eyes away. Joel Schumacher destroyed the batman movies which had started so brilliantly and so darkly with Tim Burton's original Batman. Its not unlike the 60's tv series for shear campness though i think that show realised that it was a load of crap.
Many questions arise when watching batman and robin. How did george clooney revive his career after starring in this? Why the hell did anyone ever think that chris o'donnal and alicia silverstone were decent actors? (whats up with her accent?!?) And where did i leave my shotgun? If you ever plan to do anything bad watch this movie beforehand, because they'll be playing it on a continuous loop in hell...
Very bad sequal to the batman fanchise..the worsed one. The story is silly there are too many characters in the film and bad acting all round. Suprised to see uma thurma in this film acting so silly after her brillant performance in kill bill. Only arnolds presence brings a interest in this film. Also the dvd film quality is dreadful very bad pixalisation and poor video transfer one of the worsed i have seen for such a big budget film.
The older Batman films will never be beaten. If you are a Batman fan its worth watching
very good action film we all enjoyed this film
My thoughts when renting this were George Clooney - yey! and Batman - yey!
But I was very disappointed when watching this film. Surely the 'big' actors must have had doubts when filming? How could that load of cheese follow on from the other great Batman's? Although I do think Arnie would have enjoyed filming, he plays the cheesy ice man, and his jokes stink!!
Poor Uma Thurman - after watching this I was dying to watch Kill Bill to assure myself she could act after all.
A very cheesy cliched film, watch it if you must, but don't expect too much. Good for a laugh, I s'pose! I gave it 2 out of 7, the lowest I've given any film.
Sorry George, I'm gonna stick to watchin ER when I wanna see you looking gorgeous!

I am a big fan of the Batman series of movies, loved the first one, loved Returns even more. The third one was a little camp but still likeable. So on renting this one I thought even if bad it would still be good.
Trust me I was wrong!!
Even if you loved the others don't bother. Clooney is disappointing, emotionless and monodrome. O'Donnell is annoying and Silverstone is, well she's fit if that's a selling point! The villains are terrible, tacky and unbelievable.
The acting throughout is appalling, there's no history on Batman like with the other 3. The one saving grace was Thurman who managed the tongue in cheek without camping it up ridiculously like the other "stars". Steer clear - trust me OK!? Rent another one!!! If I could give it 0.5 I would!!
I enjoyed this film - not in the same way as past Batman efforts but because it was fun and reminded me of the old batman series. I absolutely amazed at the sets and look of this film - so many vibrant colours, as close to a comic book as a film can be!
For all the guys that absoluely slated this film - it's fun! Don't take it too seriously - Arnie's in it as a Frozen Scientist in a Diamond powered suit for God's sakes!
If you liked the original series, you'll definatley like this - it's got the same kinda feel to it - if your a die hard Batman fan who is looking for a dark & moody film then you will be a bit dissappointed. Lighten up, have some fun, rent it!
This is a very very bad film even the cartoon series on tv is better than this and batman 1 2 and 3 is better than the 4th part the 4th part is a complete do over it is not my precious at all.
I didn't really know how to approach this review. The film is so bad, and there are so many flaws to it, that it's hard to know where to start!
I suppose a good place to start might be the script. Surely someone in the film industry should know that having characters explain what is going on by ridiculous dialogue is plain poor. A perfect example is the character Bain who throughout the film explains exactly what poorly made plastic prop he is holding by announcing in a crappy voice: 'Bomb', 'Door', etc.
The lighting all through the film is crap. For some reason every scene 'has' to have a ridiculous amount of neon lighting, which only makes it harder to see what is going on (perhaps this is to disguise the poor acting?!?). I can only imagine that the producers of this film had a good mate in the neon lighting industry!
Before i bore any potential reader, the final point is that the film seems to jump from scene to scene with no real story line to explain the reason for it. Is the motorbike chase scene really that key to the film? Does it actually serve any purpose except to show yet more unnecessary neon lighting?! I'd suggest that it doesn't.
The only redeeming feature of this film is the fact that Arnold is in it... THIS FILM IS ONLY FOR DIE-HARD ARNIE FANS (everyone else should have their barge-poles to hand!)
This film is without doubt best watched with someone else so that, throughout its entire monotonous length, you at least have someone there to share criticisms of the film with and know that someone else is sharing your suffering!
worst f'ing film ever made. bar none.
There isnt a good bit about 'Batman & Robin'. Its pure rubbish from start to finish.
Im quite a big fan of the Batman films. The original 'Batman' was very good, 'Batman Returns' was good and 'Batman Forever' was alright. 'Batman Begins' was brilliant, probably the best (Christian Bale was hands-down the best Batman ever).
'Batman & Robin' was abysmal, the acting was terrible. Poor performances all round. George Clooney as Batman? As soon as I read he was Batman in this film I laughed. Arnold was terrible too, one of his worst performances (not that hes a particularly good actor anyway). Uma Thurman was also very disappointing. She is such a talented actress but was dreadful.
The whole idea of Robin is completely stupid in my opinion; he drags both 'Batman Forever' and 'Batman & Robin' down. Again, poor acting by Chris ODonnell.
The script is awful, the special effects are seriously over-the-top and the movie is filled with cringe-making one-liners from pretty much every character.
Easily the worst Batman film of the four, Joel Schumacher should be ashamed.
Rent it at your peril.
Batman And Robin shows how the franchise dosen't get bigger and better it just gets bigger. don't get me wrong i loved this movie when i was a kid but know i just think it's worth three stars as i've watched this many times since 1997. the movie has Batman/Bruce Wayne [ George Clooney] and sidekick Robin/Dick Grayson [ Chris 0' Donnel] take on Mister Freeze [ Arnold Schwarznegger]this former scientist named Doctor Victor Fries who after terrible accident becomes Mister Freeze
and steals lots of diamonds so his dying wife Nora who is frozen in cryogenic sleep, can get better as her husband makes machine to hold Gotham ransom and his wife better. meanwhile Doctor Pamela Isley [ Uma Thurman] is killed by her maniacal colleague Doctor Jason Woodrue who has made mutant called Bane by torturing serial killer named Antonio Diego. Pamela is reborn in the role of Poison Ivy who can kill people with her venom filled lips. she escapes from south america with her hench-mutant Bane to join Mister Freeze and have her own garden where her plants can flourish in Gotham. Micheal Gough's back as Alfred, Pat Hingle is back as Com Gordon but no Chase Merridian? Bruce had finally found happiness only to lose it for no apparent reason. in Batman Returns we find out why Bruce and Vicky didn't last, in this we just have to presume.
instead we get Julie Madison [ love interest from the comics] played by Elle McPherson for Bruce Wayne's love interest. meanwhile both Batman and Robin's minds are being poisoned by the evil femme fatale Poison Ivy. oh, Alicia Silverstone is in the movie as
Bat Girl who 's alter ego is no longer Barbara Gordon the relation to Commissioner Gordon but is Barbara Wilson the niece of Alfred Pennyworth.
this being set up for info on Alfred's family and his brother Wilfred, sister Margaret nicknamed '' Peg'' it's also very feasible and heartwarming. Alfred is dying in this one too so that's extra emotion. Mister Freeze just wants
to bring back his wife and has gone bit pathetic so he's quite sympathetic character while Pamela Isley used to be nice but is now just pure evil is very sad. so this movie has potential for movie excellence but is just enjoyable and okay but reminds of being child so it's moving in ways.

The dullest of the series so far, gaudy but empty of emotional or narrative interest, and the action soon palls.
"...[Clooney's] voice, bearing and dark cowl-friendly eyes make him the best Batman yet..."
"...The closest the film series has come to the once-reviled 60s television show..."
