Generally it is solid, straightforward and looks fantastic. Memento director Christopher Nolan has done the character proud and there is one breathtaking shot of a brooding Batman perched on a vast skyscraper surveying the rotten city below. Just like Spiderman, the film leaves you with the feeling that everything is now in place for what should be a really terrific sequel.
An edgy, brooding drama that covers familiar ground but does so in an original way, concentrating on the interior life of a superhero who lacks super powers. It contains a rare, mythic power in its ideological confrontation of Old Testament retribution an
Director Chris Nolan brilliantly brings the bat back with this dark and dangerous blend of thrills and suspense, and strikes the perfect balance to deliver a super show building to a brutal battle to the death.
Having just returned from the cinema, I felt I had to write a review for Hollywood's best blockbuster in ages. Batman Begins is, as you would expect, a film that depicts how Bruce Wayne became the 'Bat'. The film has a fantastic mix of action, storytelling and homur that keeps the pace chopping along nicely. The special FX are excellent and the Bat-Mobile is just cool. I have to admit, the one thing that I thought stood out the most is the very dark nature of the film (which it should be!), it worked really well and there were some moments that younger viewers or those of a sensitive nature might find a bit spooky. The cast list was top notch, as was the acting and directing. All in all, I have not enjoyed a trip to the cinema as much in a long time and I would strongly urge you to see this on the big screen. However, no matter when or where you simply must watch this film... its the best blockbuster that Hollywood has produced in a very long time - very highly recommended ;o)
The only Batman movie you ever need to see.
At last, back to the good old days of good Batman films. Christopher Nolan has resurrected the Batman franchise that most people presumed had been killed off after those last few films that I can't bring myself to mention. Christian Bale is superb as Wayne/Batman and Michael Caine is as good as ever. Cillian Murphy is possibly one of the few villains that is scarier without the mask than with it.
The film takes a while to get going but it does set the scene incredibly well and the sets look amazing and add to the dark feel of the film.
The only thing that I didn't like was Katie Holmes' character, Rachel. The character was very weak and didn't really add much to the film apart from being the token (allegedly) tough woman in a man's world/love interest.
Aside from that one tiny thing, this is quite possibly one of the best films I have seen for a long time - GO SEE IT!
Batman at its best! Back to it's gothic dark best.
Good story line, ties in well!
Bale is a great Batman, and the bad guys are scary!
very interesting film, good performance

You have to decide how you want your Batman! all dark, brooding & menacing like the comic book, or kapoow wowee Batman ala 1960's. If its the latter you may find this a bit harsh, if you thought every film before was lame you will love this!! Christian Bale plays the slightly deranged superhero brilliantly, full of menace & anger, Gotham looks like the mean streets its meant to be. This film is a corker even with the odd lame line or two. Finally a Batman you want to see more of.
With superb performances all round from a heavily British cast, particularly Bale in the lead and the ever entertaining Cillian Murphy as his foe, this is by far the best Batman movie so far. Christopher Nolan out darkens Burton in the way of both style and action proving himself to be in the leagues of Sam Raimi in the supermovie genre.
The only two faults I can find is that it does exactly what it says on the tin and nothing more, it quite literally tells you how Batman Begins. The only other problem is the lack of a decent villian which is essential for a truelygreat superhero movie. The great, up and coming Cillian Murphy is very much underused as the fantastic character 'The Scarecrow.'
But other than that this is a two and a half hours of pure, thankfully anti-camp, entertainment.
A prescient exercise in how to make an intelligent blockbuster with believable characters given psychological depth, 'Batman Begins' is an origin film that actually explores its heros genesis with cerebral attention to detail.
Adapted from director Christopher Nolans (Along with Davos S Goya) script the film explores all those things about the guy with the cape and chip on his shoulder that you may have wondered about. How does he get so good at fighting, where does he get his gadgets, why did he chose the bat as his symbol, and why is so ticked off? 'Batman Begins' does all that really well.
Christian Bale as batman endows him with a ferocious intensity while the top notch supporting cast all bring extra gravitas to their roles. Michael Caine as the affable butler Alfred is terrifically relaxed, Gary Oldman nicely restrained as Lt Gordon, as indeed is Liam Neeson as Batmans mentor, while Cillain Murphy is extremely creepy as The Scarecrow. Indeed only the rather bland Katie Holmes lets the side down and unfortunately she looks like being a feature in the sequels.
Batman is easily the most interesting comic book character as he is no superhero. He is just supremely motivated, tremendously angry and very rich, which helps of course. Plus hes more in common with the criminals he hunts than its comfortable to admit. This film knows that and its one of the myriad reasons why it works so well.
If you are expecting to see a Batman movie that is similar to 1,2,3 & 4 then you will be suprised and maybe dissapointed in this version. However I would watch this film with an open mind and forget what you have seen in the previous films. It is not directed in the same way as the other super hero movies and less tongue in check.
A very good watch for most people and I think most will say it is worth watching.
By far the best Batman movie since the first, easily eclipsing everything done seen since Micheal Keaton pulled on the pointy headed bat-hat. Truly dark with some frankly pretty scary moments, this film is gritty and real and powers along with an outstanding line-up of acting talent (primarily British it has to be added). Christian Bale is great as the Caped Crusader as are pretty much everyone who appears on screen.
*** SPOILER ALERT *** The weaponised hallucinogen (basically a lethal dose of engineered LSD used by the Scarecrow) was superbly realised - giving the film it's biggest shock and numerous scares. *** SPOILER OVER ***
All in all a fantastic return to form for the Batman franchise - compare this to the Clooney effort - it's like diamonds and s**t!!!!
Watched the film last night and this has got to be one of the best films that I've seen this year, 2005.
The acting was superb (many 'big' stars here, Christian Bale, Sir Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Liam Neeson)...the action breath-taking and the special effects amazing.
Obivously people's opinions will differ, but for me, this lived up to my expectations, and in a way surpassed them.
It was an interesting story about the beginning of Batman, how he came to be and why. Filling in many holes left by previous attempts to recreate the character on the big screen.
Highly recommended and I can't wait for the next film!
this is absolutely rubbish compared to the other batman films. give this one a miss.

This tense, effective iteration of Bob Kane's original comic book owes its power and pleasures to a director who takes his material seriously and to a star who shoulders that seriousness with ease
A triumph a confidently original, engrossing interpretation, with a seriously thought-through aesthetic point of view..
Christian Bale makes the best Bruce Wayne/Batman since Warner Bros. revived the franchise in 1989.
