Most helpful review
incredibily dark and gothic - best of the four
By dvdaddict from London , 10 Nov 2003[Highly rated reviewer]
This the first and probably most popular of the four films. It is probably the best of the four. Jack Nicholson is brilliant as the maniacal Joker. He and the whole film are incredibily dark. It is a generally dark film lacking the tongue in cheek humour of the earlier tv shows. Michael Keaton is the best Batman he brings out the ambivillance of his character he's often on the edge perhaps even of his sanity. The set is also dark and has a real gothic appearance. A very good film with good soundtrack and rightly popular at its release.- Was this review helpful to you?

(24)Very good film
By cheesekake (1312 reviews) from uk , 29 Apr 2013After seeing the Christian Slater films later in the series of Batman I think this film was not as good, but when I did originally see it thought it was brilliant. Its still a good watch and makes you realise all the Batman films only got better as they went on- Was this review helpful to you?

Great film.
By Skitzomultiple (114 reviews) from Earth , 23 Mar 2011Any fan of the latest batman films should watch this one. Its a great watch with old style action and laughs. Jack Nicholson is funny as usual. Tim Burton has put his gothic looking twist on it and it really works. Great film.- Was this review helpful to you?

Surprisingly good
By Niskin (50 reviews) from Cambridge , 22 Mar 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
I am not a Tim Burton fan but this is surprisingly good. Jack Nicholson is fantastic as the ridiculously psychotic Joker, the batmobile is amazing, and there are some excellent effects and fight scenes. Also Kim Basinger is just delightfully beautiful! It is darkly comic but serious enough to maintain suspense and plot, unlike 'Batman Returns' which I cannot take seriously. I think it's the best of the four Batman films, and if you enjoyed the more recent productions then you should certainly watch it.- Was this review helpful to you?

Not a patch on the later films
By a customer from London , 13 Mar 2011You have to watch this film on its own merits if you watch it in comparison with the most recent in the series you will be severely disappointed. Some nice bits but I felt the acting was poor and special effects awful, on a positive Kim Basinger looks HOT!!!!!- Was this review helpful to you?
