Battle of the Sexes
By Barbara Watkins from Swansea, Wales , 02 Mar 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
This is a Peter Sellers film which doesn't seem to get repeated on TV often. The theme is not original. Pushy American woman tries to modernise fudy duddy old Scottish firm, but the dialogue is very crisp, and Peter Sellers' understated performance as the mild teetotal accountant and would be criminal is brilliant. There is a nice twist at the end too. A real classic.- Was this review helpful to you?

(6)A Different Story Not Too Predictable
By oldtimerfilmbuff (17 reviews) , 07 Mar 2012An entertaining, good late 50`s film. Full of character actors of the old school. Everyone, played the part, without too much slapstick. Vey much to my liking, but maybe not everybody`s cup of tea.

Another Peter Sellers dud
By sixtiesforever (9 reviews) from Dunstable , 13 Oct 2010The contrast between this and I'm All Right Jack is amazing. Same vintage, but that was as good as this was bad. Peter Sellers is playing a bit of a Luddite in both. In this, his character is just Peter Sellers putting on a jokey performance, whereas in I'm All Right Jack he becomes Mr Kite with great acting.
Also Robert Morley doesn't help with his over the top portrayal of the bosses son, and while Ian Carmichael portrays much more of a buffoon, somehow you empathise with him.
The clowning with the squawk box is just childish.
I'm afraid it is all down to not having any characters you can empathise with at all.- Was this review helpful to you?

Synch
By Jan Webb from London , 02 Sep 2006Sadly the picture on this DVD is out of synch with the soundtrack which makes it difficult to concentrate. As the film's a bit on the boring side anyway it didn't matter too much. Sellers isn't trying too hard here and the story is daft. If you want good b/w films there are many finer examples - Passport to Pimlico for instance.- Was this review helpful to you?

Could do with more spunk
By UncannyUK (31 reviews) from North Wales , 16 Nov 2005A mild comedy - a bit too mild at the start - but once Peter Sellers' beautifully understated character begins to timidly fight back against his bossy female oppressor, the story livens up, with a particularly entertaining set piece around a foiled murder attempt. Great for a wet Sunday afternoon - undemanding but satisfying. And Sellers is always a joy to watch. (Incidentally, the cover illustrating this DVD is for an entirely different film).- Was this review helpful to you?
