It'll bring tears to your eyes...

I am of course referring to what will happen to you if you encounter a cop that objects to your right to peaceful protest. Staurt Townsend's directorial debut deals with some big issues in a surprisingly mature way best exemplified by Ray Liotta's complex dilemma as mayor of Seattle and yet another blistering performance by Woody Harrelson. In many ways this film tries to be the story of the birth of the modern protest movement, but it's 2 years before 9/11, Clinton is in the White House, and people communicated not through Twitter but by writing notes on each other's arms in felt tip pens. It seems like a hundred years ago already - in fact the only thing that's the same is the WTO's continued ability to put the profits of major corporations before the basic needs and rights of more than 90% of the world's population.- Was this review helpful to you?

Battle in Seattle
By a customer from Brentwood , 29 Jul 2009I saw this movie in the UK on DVD, brought from America. Battle in Seattle made me question, why the controversies with the WTO aren't still being discussed on a larger scale today. Director Stuart Townsend has graphically illustrated these issues in a format that is informative, human aspects of survival and inspirational. He chose a brilliant cast of successful actors, and the intense real life action scenes are brilliantly intergrated into the writers fictional stories. I highly recommend buying this film or waiting for the DVD film release on Lovefilm. This film illustrates the importance to us all to be open to all the view points the characters in this movie represent.- Was this review helpful to you?
