Typical American cheese throughout and at the end. Could have been better, let down, slow to start, predictable finish - middle was ok - wouldn't watch again!

  • OFFENSIVELY TERRIBLE

    Rated - 0.5 stars

Avoid at all costs. This film is painful! In every way. The acting is appalling, the story is wafer thin, and they even, somehow, manage to make the action boring. The fact that Liam Neeson is so prolific in the trailers was simply to draw an audience; no spoilers, but he's only on-screen for 5mins if that of the 2 hour film. The length of the film is also an issue. The plot-less beginning which only serves to remind the viewer of what a loser the main character is so that it can show what a leader he will become goes on for a full quarter of the movie. Not to mention how he becomes the Lieutenant of a destroyer in a matter of weeks. In actuality this is quite a difficult film to review not only because its the sort of film you continue to watch to see if it becomes any better, but because afterwards you realise that no, it wasn't an enjoyable 2 hour long explosion ah la Transformers, it was instead just a load of cr*p. Honestly, its not worth it, even if it is just so you can switch off your brain for a bit, it just goes on for far too long.

  • Good effects, well-known story. Watchable

Entertaining, if a little over-arching towards the USA but I'll allow them that as they made the film! Acting was a bit hollow, the storyline well-known but the special effects are very good. (BTW - why is it that when the heroes are confronted by a metal-clad alien with the strength of many and the human gets battered, they get up as if they have only been punched by a woman? They would really be nursing many broken bones at least!) Has humorous moments and the usual collection of geeks, petty politicians and pretty girl but well worth a watch, if only for the effects

  • All aboard for the board game!

    Rated - 3.5 stars

Based on the board game 'Battleship' the film revolves around an alien invasion and the US Navy's response to it. There are lots of tactical decisions made, gunfire, explosions and CGI but it still made a good yarn! Good film of them against us, saving the world etc....
