Battlestar Galactica - The Mini Series

PLEASE NOTE: This is the introduction to the new television series. It has been more than 40 years since the humans of the 12 Colonies of Kobol did battle with the Cylons - a sentient robot race who turned on their creators with deadly results. The robots have observed the armistice that ended the Cylon War, but the promised diplomatic relations between man and machine never materialized. Silent for years, humanity's deadliest enemies are now re-emerging with a vengeance - and this time they have taken on human form. Following a swift and deadly attack, the human race is once more reduced to a ragtag fleet of fighters, facing a final unwinnable battle. Do they make one final stand against the Cylons, hoping to triumph against all odds? Or do they flee in search of another hospitable world?

    Refreshing ...

Wow. This has to be the first time ever I've seen any 'remake' and thought that it was actually better than the original!

It's a bit formulaic (oh look, it's a sci-fi pilot and the captain is going hand-to-hand with the bad guys ... *again*), but it's an excellent introduction to the series.

Good things? The alcoholic Colonel Tie, Adama, 'nuclear missiles', the 'disaster movie' feel, Boltar, the CGI cylons, the 'human' cylons ... and tonnes of other stuff.

Bad things? Some people will hate the 'human' cylons idea, but hell Arnie got 3 films out of the human-looking-robot idea so it's obviously got something right? The whole 'baby' scene ... I guess this was just in case you mistook them for the good guys (maybe they should carry a sign), Boomer at the end, and that's it (ok the flashing red light on the front of the cylon ships).

It's not the original, it's different. If you want the originals then they're here to rent as well ... If you like the idea and want to see what someone else can do with it then this is the dvd set for you.

    GALACTIC!!!!

I was never a fan of the original 70's series. I only watched a few re-runs a few years ago out of curiosity and was, well frankly bored to death by it. So I was more than a little reserved when I saw that a remake had been made, especially as most remakes - The Planet Of The Apes, The Ring, and now The Grudge to name just a few - are usually total poo. So I sat down with a slightly biased opinion that this would follow in those turkeys footsteps. How wrong could I be. I don't mind admitting that I was spellbound by it for all 3 hours. Indeed, I found myself hoping it would never finish and that I wasn't watching a pilot for a series but looking in to another dimension through my TV!!! Sure, the more die-hard BSG fans might find holes and flaws, but for fans of sci-fi this rates as one of the best there has been for a very long time. The story is easy to follow - mankind on the run from some nasty robots called the Cylons who are evolving and determined to whipe us off the map. The SFX are out of this world...literally. I challenge anyone who likes sci-fi to not enjoy it.
