I'm surprised that has taken so long to be available for rental - I've had this DVD for some time, bought cheaply in a remaindered sale at a DVD shop. I have a great deal of nostalgia for this film, having first seen it at the cinema a quarter of a century ago. At the time it was considered to be the 'poor relation' of Starwars, however, unlike Starwars, it does looks a bit dated now. The characters are one dimensional and stilted, seem unable to demonstrate any real emotion over the destruction of their people, although the Cylons are as impressive as ever. Indeed, it might have been an advantage if the Cylons had managed to shoot some more of these characters, especially that ridiculous robotic dog. The new remake of this is much better, and Richard Hatch's decision to appear in one of the episodes of the new series should help reconcile fans to the new version.
