It's better to create than to consume, that's the liberating message in Michel Gondry's new comedy, though this declaration of independence inadvertently highlights some of the drawbacks associated with "am-auteurs". Conspiracy thriller Vantage Point, which stars Dennis Quaid (Inner Space, The Day After Tomorrow, Traffic) and Oscar winner Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland), has shot to the top of the UK box office on its opening weekend. The Bank Job, starring Jason Statham, Saffron Burrows and the ever-debonair Peter Bowles, has stolen in at number one in the UK box office chart, according to the latest figures from Nielsen. Thriller Vantage Point, starring Dennis Quaid and 2007 Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, has knocked action flick Jumper off the top spot at the US box office, according to official figures.
