'Beautiful Boy' is an unconventional love story that explores the journey of a married couple on the verge of separation, who must live with unimaginable heartbreak, and find healing through the darkest days of their lives. Bill (Michael Sheen) and Kate (Maria Bello) hopelessly try to find some hint of an explanation after finding out that their only son committed a mass shooting at his university before taking his own life. They struggle numbly through the funeral, the media onslaught, and the awkward pity from relatives and friends. Their already strained marriage is tested as they realize all they have left with each other is their shared grief and confusion—and the unfortunate legacy of their son. This life-altering event forces Bill and Kate to face their feelings of guilt, rage, blame, self-discovery, and ultimately hope so that they can finally see each other and their chance for happiness again with clear eyes.

Stunted Emotion

An interesting portrayal of grief and stunted emotion. The two leads rightly lacked chemistry but the plot seemed to ignore that. The strength of this film was what was left out allowing the characters to show who they were. At times this was a little unbelievable but ultimately made the film more compelling.

If you like raw powerful and emotional dramas this is for you. Top quality acting as well, the two leads are really good.

Great performance from Michael Sheen. As always.

Ok so this movie is about a very sensitive subject but first and foremost it is a story about love, understanding and forgiveness. Michael Sheen is always brilliant at potraying deep and disturbing emotion and he doesn't fail to impress in this movie. Maria Bello is also always a pleasure to watch. I felt the movie being very honest and real and how everything and everyone is questioned by one persons actions.

Worth a watch

Wonderful acting, good film, but if you're going to watch this kind of depressing film watch '|We Need To Talk About Kevin' instead/aswell. A much better film.

worth watching

where We need to talk about Kevin left me cold, this had me swallowing a lump in my throat and wiping away a tear... mainly due to the relationship between the parents, who struggled with the raw emotion of not just loosing their son, but coming to terms with what he had done.

the whole film was helped nicely along by having such a small cast, giving it a very intimate feel........

Reminded me again why i rate Sheen as a great actor (Twilight made me forget for a while)
