Becket on film
By a customer from Scotland , 27 Feb 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
It's hard to get to see live Becket beyond 'Waiting for Godot'. These performances will not disappoint, and you will also find other very rarely seen gems of superb quality. It is marvellous to have authoritative performances of these masterpieces on demand.- Was this review helpful to you?

(21)No waiting for Godot - it's here!
By Geofbob (40 reviews) , 24 Dec 2012An absolute must-see for anyone interested in Beckett's writing or in modern theatre. Most of the stagings are excellent, with all concerned trying hard to stick to the Master's rigid (& sometimes unreasonable) directions. For most Beckett fans these discs probably offer the only chance they will ever have to see some of the minor pieces.- Was this review helpful to you?

An ambitious project that delivers
By Thefunkygibbons (1 review) from Church Crookham , 15 Nov 2010Having seen several of the longer plays live over the years, it is a rare treat to see some of the minor works. The version of Godot on this set is outstanding and is worth the money all by itself. Obviously Beckett is hard work, and I think it would be better to own this set so as to digest slowly rather than having on Lovefilem where one always wants to get things watched and returned.- Was this review helpful to you?

Beckett On Film - Disc One
By a customer from North of Watford , 03 Jul 2010This disc comprises a super version of Waiting For Godot starring Barry McGovern, Johnny Murphy, Alan Stanford, Stephen Brennan and Sam McGovern, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg (1hr 53 mins) followed by the monologue Not I (Julianne Moore as the mouth, 15 mins), then Rough For Theatre 1 a two-hander with Milo OShea and David Kelly (18 mins) and Ohio Impromptu which has Jeremy Irons in a dual role (11 mins). Then theres a documentary about the making of the entire Beckett On Film series (51mins) and optional short introductions to the four main works above. The picture/sound quality is fine.- Was this review helpful to you?

Great But...
By a customer from Walthamstow , 07 Oct 2008Its great to have every Beckett play available to watch - another reviewer observes that you'll rareley get a chance to see most of them performed, this is true.
But, if you're a purist this is probably not for you, most substantially diverge from the stage directions in the originals (though never the text), and therby become a vehicle for the director, not Beckett.
That being said, from my point of view, only a couple fail completeley (an AWFUL adaptation of 'Breath' directed by Damien Hearst - which misses the point of the original by a mile - and a badly acted reading of 'Not I').
Whatever, it's rekindled a lifelong love of Beckett for me and I've eagerly awaited each disc. An especial treat is being able to watch each of the shorts a few times - not an expereince you're liekley to get in live theatere in a lifetime!- Was this review helpful to you?
