This is bad bad bad. Everyone in it is an idiot and you don't care one bit about a single person in the film. Look for something else, I think you will be glad.
'Before the Devil Knows You're Dead' is an excellent, well paced thriller where the great lead actors Hoffman, Hawke, Finney and Tomei all have the chance to overshadow each other but don't.
When, what seems like a simple plan to get two brothers out of their financial difficulties goes wrong we get to see Hoffman and Hawke slowly unravel as their crimes catch up with them.
The non-linear direction is not difficult to follow and works particularly well thanks to Lumet's years of experience.
A definite must see.
Things fall apart, as any student of crime will tell you. And if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans. Andy (Philip Seymour Hoffman) has a plan.
