This is bad bad bad. Everyone in it is an idiot and you don't care one bit about a single person in the film. Look for something else, I think you will be glad.- Was this review helpful to you?

(241)Movie buffs should see this one before you're dead.
By Bobsview (554 reviews) from Gloucestershire , 18 Feb 2013Dark and brooding hard hitting thriller about two loser brothers who hatch up a robbery which goes badly wrong. From then onwards things go from bad to worse and engulf the entire family. It is gritty and grim and the storyline unpleasant to watch. Uncompromising and ruthless. Best to watch it on your own as not one for an enjoyable movie night in with your partner. I nearly gave it four stars but it is spoilt a little by the unecessary jumbling up of the order of play such that it is a cobbled together series of flashbacks. Well acted and scripted though and overall a very good watchable film.- Was this review helpful to you?

The devil knows you're dead!
By Aristotle (8 reviews) , 01 Dec 2012Great storyline, great suspense, great acting. On the last Albert Finney was a bit disappointing. He seemed to be having problems with his facial expression and his accent. But Marisa Tomei was excellent as were the two other main characters and the host of secondary ones. Sidney Lumet directs the whole thing with his usual style. The recurrent flashbacks which some people do not like I found actually helpful in keeping the different points of view clear.- Was this review helpful to you?

I'm telling y'all it's SABOTAGE
By Mattiogogo (5 reviews) , 25 Oct 2012Sidney Lumet was a wonderful director. This is one of his poorest films. When Ethan Hawke first appears on screen, he looks like an extra from the Beastie Boys 'Sabotage' promo. It goes downhill quickly after.
The experimental editing and flipping between story days are very irritating.
However, if you are a fan of Marisa Tomei, then this is definitely the film for you.
Go and pick up 12 Angry Men or the Verdict, Lumet (and filmmaking) at it's best.- Was this review helpful to you?

an enjoyable film.
By Sab76 (75 reviews) from Birmingham , 04 Aug 2012i enjoyed this film but be warned! its one of them flitting between the present and past layouts which i found a bit confusing and it meant a few repeated scenes. i didn't clock watch or anything through it and was gripped till the end so i would reccommend this one.- Was this review helpful to you?

insanely gripping
By kafka11 (14 reviews) , 01 Jul 2012Meticulously scripted, and terrific performances, this is film making at its best. A dark and brooding Carter Burwell score sets the tone for a tense, tight heartbeat of a movie. Like walking down a staircase that you know will lead to hell.- Was this review helpful to you?
