im not the type of person who likes to watch true stoty's and chick flicks but i liked this story. it opened my eyes and made me realise how lucky i am not to have violent perents. i dont know how people could treat there children the way that the mother in the film treats hers.

The amazing performances and shocking storyline make this one of the saddest movies I've ever seen. You see the film through the eyes of a young girl, first losing her father and then enduring brutal abuse by her grieving mother. She befriends the local 'coloured lady' despite warnings to stay away. I cried most of the way through. Ellen Barkin and Tina Majorino are exceptional in this film. If you're after a chick flick tear jerker, look no further.

this film is amazing. no cliches, no predictable 'happy ending' you are only left hoping that the ending is a happy one. there is no way you can get through this film without the kleenex-probably best to watch alone as you cry so much it's quite unattractive!!
