I simply had to write a review for this opera performance. Anna Netrebko was absolutely stunning. Forget her looks (even though she looks good), she has the most beautiful voice and can act as well. On my CDs of this opera I have Joan Sutherland singing Elvira. Anna Netrebko has a simpler voice but so beautiful. I am not usually a great fan of mad scenes but in this performance her singing was so lovely and her acting so believable that I found both mad scenes incredibly moving. There is lots more for her to sing and plenty of good tunes with the rest of the cast performing well. But she was the star. (A standing ovation at the end). This is undoubtedly in my top 10 of opera DVDs and I have watched some 200!
The main singer in this performance has striking good looks; and her performance, in the main, comes up to the standard of her looks. The other lead singers turn in equally good performances, though they do not have Netrebko's good looks. The costumes are also good looking. So, great visuals and great sound, even if this is not Bellini's best music.
