Excellent
By a customer from Coventry UK , 08 Jul 2007[Highly rated reviewer]
A great film that sticks quite closely the the original Anglo-Saxon saga.
The film is very atmospheric with great action sequences, brilliant costumes and props and a decent cast who really bring this Nordic tale to the screen with style. If, like me, you love Historical epics then make sure you rent this one then sit back and enjoy being transported through the mists of time to a legend and myth from the Dark-ages.- Was this review helpful to you?

(129)Beowulf and Grendel
By a customer , 06 Apr 2013A bit different from the other movie of a similar name with that darlin Angelina in it. I must admit I wasn't that struck with the other one as it had too much computer enhanced stuff in it so it was nice to see an ordinary type movie. I thought the acting was ok but a bit 'wooden' in some places. Worth a look.- Was this review helpful to you?

Embarrassing low-budget cringe-fest
By Tehanu (13 reviews) from Earthsea , 13 Sep 2011Sorely disappointed as I was so pleased to see they had used scandinavean actors for some of the roles - but with a script like that it's a wonder their careers are not in tatters. All the lyricism, nobility and atmosphere of the original tale is utterly lost in what feels like a bunch of teenage boys having a crack at a homemade viking movie. Grendel is the least fearful monster I have ever come across and seemed more like someone who had escaped from an insane asylum. I started to laugh everytime he turned up on screen. The characters were all so 2D - the bizarre raving priest, the drunk and depressed king, the cheesy american witch/love interest. The only thing that was remotely scary in this was the furry child at the beginning!- Was this review helpful to you?

More than it seems
By Daz47 (9 reviews) from Edinburgh , 02 Jul 2011I expected this to be much like the animated version, blood, guts and viking glory which it more or less does have but the story really is much better and Gerald Butlers acting really adds to it. Judging it by its cover it didn't look like much but this is very much a hidden gem of a movie.- Was this review helpful to you?

Bored beyond belief!
By a customer , 21 Jun 2011Bored beyond belief! Possibly spoiled by the more recent visually spectacular animated version of the movie. So slow! I kept waiting for something to happen, still waiting.- Was this review helpful to you?
