A fabulous evening's singing

This Gala, in aid of an AIDS charity (a fact which is none too obvious from the DVD, unfortunately), showcases some of the finest vocal talents of the early 21st Century. Rene Pape (despite a musical error carried off with a pleasing touch of humour), Vesselina Kasarova, Adrianne Pieczonka and Michele Crider are all magnificent. The only real dissappointment is Grace Bumbry, once one of the greatest of singers, who dissappoints in a Dalila aria which by this time lies beyond her vocal capabilities. This is only a minor drawback - rent this DVD and enjoy!- Was this review helpful to you?
