I saw this film when it came out on TV one christmas in the early 90's, it didnt have a cinema release, was just a one off fun movie for christmas. I still have the VHS tape of it and have watched it so many times. Lenny Henry is hilarious and Rowan Atkinson is on top form...shame few people have heard of this film let alone seen it as in my humble opinion, I think it is well worth a watch
Maybe part of the reason I love this film so much is because I grew up watching a scratchy VHS of it that we'd taped off the telly every year at Christmas. But maybe the fact that I still love it and still watch it every Christmas is testament to how good it is. Rowan Atkinson's performance as the villain is hilarious, Alan Cummings is irresistably sweet as Bernard, and all the characters have so many quoteable lines. It has a warm fuzzy feelgood factor to it, too, as you'd expect from a Christmas film. This really is a hidden gem.
