Better Than Chocolate

Life is going great for Maggie. She has recently moved out on her own and found the woman of her dreams. However, things quickly change when her mother and brother are forced to move into Maggie's tiny loft sublet with her. All the freedom and space she has gained is compromised, and she believes she must keep her blossoming affair a secret. But it's the clandestine romance that inadvertently introduces her family to a host of new experiences, many of which are better than chocolate. Karin Dwyer and Christina Cox are terrific as the young lovers, and Wendy Crewson is splendid as Maggie's mother, who might finally be ready to break out and start having some fun in her life.

    Better than most

This film was voted Audience Award Winner at The London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival 1999.

It's not surprising! After a derth of decent lesbian movies this came as a breath of fresh air.

It's entertaining, amusing, interesting, and the cast is attractive! - what more could you want?

Oh yes...it's well written and nicely shot.

The film has something to say about all forms of women's and transgendered sexuality without being 'PC'. There are one or two of the usual stereotypes, but on the whole the characters are real and nicely fleshed out. You care about them. It helps that the actors really can act.

All involved give fine performances (the leads can be spotted in many other films and TV shows), but particular mention must be given to Wendy Crewson ('The 6th Day','Bicentennial Man') for her fine comic turn as Maggie's mother.

This is a lighthearted film that you can watch again and again.

    interesting and informative

this film addresses a great number of socially 'unacceptable' stereotypes and excutes this delightfully (with a cherry on top!)

I found this film hypotising and really draws you into the lives of the characters involved and just when you think I know what is going to happen there is another interesting twist. I think this film should be seen by all so that everyone can see how by creating social prejudices you manage to alienate most of society.
