First Class Storytelling
By Goldenboots (53 reviews) from East Grinstead, England , 16 Sep 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
This got a right hammering in the press, and I just can't see why. The story about aide workers and the conditions they work under makes the film well worth watching in its own right, then put in some superb acting and photography and you have a real winner. Jolie was superb as the rich American who gets hooked on helping starving people whilst Owen plays his role in the way he does best. Good support too and an almost intelligent script. Hire or buy this one and prove the box office returns wrong.- Was this review helpful to you?

(158)Touching movie
By Cat_family (3 reviews) , 06 Apr 2013I think this is a great movie particularly for those who care about what happens outside their own world. For those who are compassionate about those people that live on a few or no penny a day. It can be very touching. I cried a lot, throughout the whole movie :-)- Was this review helpful to you?

Can beauty be an handicap?
By Claudette (23 reviews) from Reading , 28 Feb 2013I don't know why I like so much Angela Jolie because, most of the time, she is in rubbish films. I think that, like Brigitte Bardot, she is handicapped by her beauty. She can be very good if the director doesn't rely on her physical appearance only. In this film I didn't expect much and I was quite pleasantly surprised. The director and his story give us an idea of what she can do. The subject of the rich pretty woman being confronted to the world's misery is quite a classic one. However it is always fascinating. This film (and others of the kind) helps me to understand how can a woman make such a sacrifice by putting a cause before her children. She is like Aung San Suu Kyi who chose her fight to a 'dream life'. The sacrifice of the man (Clive Owen) is less demanding in comparison. Definitely worth seeing.- Was this review helpful to you?

Beyond Borders - brilliant & moving
By MelissaMarabamma (218 reviews) from South Coast UK , 18 Jan 2013This is a non-formulaic excellent film. The community of people who dedicate their lives to saving others are rarely the one's who are covered by Hollywood A listers. The star roles are really well acted with a good supporting cast. A poignant love story in a violent but heroic setting.- Was this review helpful to you?

Loved it
By eddengenes (12 reviews) from Exmouth , 30 Mar 2012What a fantastic actress 'The Jolie' is. This is one of a series of her films we are going through and her range of acting and adaptability is unsurpassed.
Well worth a watch x- Was this review helpful to you?

Beyond Boredom
By a customer , 29 Jan 2012A really simplistic view of aid, international development and civil war. The non-western characters are either stereotypical victims or monsters. Simple characterisation, no moral ambiguity and cliched plot developments.
The direction is really boring and you can clearly see that every scene has been shot in a studio.
This would all be acceptable, what with it being a throwaway action film and all, but the subject matter is so sensitive that everyone involved really should have tried harder.
(And what's going on with Jolie's hair?)- Was this review helpful to you?
