  • much better than I was expecting

    [Highly rated reviewer]

To be honest, i really wasn't expecting anything from this film. It had a few bad reviews when it came out so i didn't bother with the cinema. It's Simon Pegg though for god's sake, so i couldn't just ignore it.

I've gotta say it's a much better film than I thought it'd be.

Pegg's American con-man, Gus, is a little hard to swallow at first, not because the accent is bad (it really isn't) but it's Pegg in a whole new light. After a while you forget about it and enjoy the movie. David Schwimmer is great - he doesn't overplay his character - in fact he plays a surprisingly less wired part than you might expect. He's actually quite cool - essentially, he's the hero! A loser, mind..

I may be on my own with this one but I think it's definitely worth a watch. Yes it's like Fargo but it takes itself a lot less seriously. It's very dark and at times very funny with a great soundtrack featuring Rammstein and none other than the man himself, Karl Jenkins!

Don't expect Shaun of the Dead or Spaced, don't expect anything - this is not a Simon Pegg movie, it's a movie starring Simon Pegg, there's a big difference! Just watch it and see what happens...

Love simon pegg so watched this film basically because of him and not david from friends. The mad cap ideas of Simon lead david and himself from one bad case to another, very funny at times. You have to watch it really to see.

  • Ross gets out of his depth.

    Rated - 3.5 stars

Take the hapless Ross from Friends, a few years older but otherwise unchanged, put him in a script where his haplessness lands him in much worse situations than wakening up in a museum display case with Rachel under the eyes of a party of staring kids, and you’ve more or less got this film. The David Schwimmer character is tempted by a colleague to take part in an unsavoury con-trick, which escalates into a sequence of murders including his own. It’s fast-moving and cleverly plotted, with lots of startling twists (including a grimly ironic one in the very last sequence – don’t let your attention wander), and if you can take the appalling story with the light-hearted detachment which the script and the direction invite, you’ll get a lot of fun out of it. Ross (sorry, Mr Schwimmer, but even less than your beloved Rachel have you shown us that you’ll ever be anybody else) puts up a good performance as the dopey dupe in a situation completely beyond his control. No classic, but worth a try.

  • This is not to bad

This is not too bad or certainly not as bad as some say, not sure what they expect from a comedy thriller, but this does what it says, it is funny in places and does what a thriller does best, a bit of guessing and on the edge.

Thought this was a good film, ok not as good as it could have been but still worth a watch.
