In Stephen Herek's quirky comedy, two brain-dead California teenagers, with a combined vocabulary of approximately 75 words, travel back in time to corral various historical figures for a class presentation that just might keep the pair from failing history "most heinously." Bill S. Preston, Esquire (Alex Winter) and Ted "Theodore" Logan (Keanu Reeves, in one of his first starring roles) encounter Napoleon, Socrates, Billy the Kid, Sigmund Freud, Mozart, and others, who then journey forward in time with the duo in order to give the youth of California eye-witness accounts of the "awesome" pageant that is world history. Most excellent.

Reeves resembles a moronic puppet with loose strings ambling amiably through this happy-go-lucky voyage into the short circuits of history. Engaging to the max.
Bill (Winter) and Ted (Reeves) are cool dudes, but to their teacher, they're high school no-hopers. They fantasise... read more on Time Out
Keanu Reeves has left his humble beginnings and wants to forget about them, I say this movie is most excellent in everyway.
-- you'd understand that intro if you watched both films--
This film shows some very nice ideas and although a bit dated the overall charm this film has is still shining through to me now.
I would say the sequel does have some better jokes in it and the Grim Reaper is very funny but the original has such a good scene in the shopping mall I can forgive it for his absence.
Dudes, it is your most excellent honour to have the opportunity to rent this DVD, also its just a good laugh to see Keanu in a less serious role.
