Mel Gibson has another crack at a drugs-related role (first seen in Tequila Sunrise), although this time the mood is considerably lighter. He plays a former small-time drugs runner who has been in hiding since turning state's evidence, but who ends up on the run with an old flame (Goldie Hawn) when his cover is broken. It's frothy nonsense for the most part, but expertly packaged by director John Badham, and it does boast the rare sight of macho Mel impersonating a camp hairdresser. Hawn is an able if sometimes irritating foil, while David Carradine, Bill Duke (best known now as the director of films such as Deep Cover and A Rage in Harlem) and Stephen Tobolowsky are an entertaining trio of villains.

    GOLDIE AT HER BEST

the fact that i own OVERBOARD,another great and very funny comedy from goldie, which is worth a watch as well, leads me to put this film in the action /comedy bracket rather than just comedy.

goldie recognises an old flame and then all hell breaks loose.

old flame mel gibson is on witness protection programme and someone is out to get him.

very funny, fast moving but the ending is ....well, let you judge for yourself.

definitely one of her best comedy/action films and one for all goldie hawn fans...enjoy with popcorn and some liquid refreshment!!!!

    for fans of goldie hawn

You probably have to be a fan of goldie hawn to enjoy this film. This is her typical character. If you like goldie you will like this just a little good old fashioned fun.

    TOP MOVIE !!!

The can't-miss teaming of Mel Gibson and Goldie Hawn is squandered on a clumsy, illogical romantic melodrama. Running across her old boyfriend Gibson at a Wisconsin gas station, Hawn is astounded that he seems not to recognize her. How could she have known that Gibson was put into the Witness Relocation Program after testifying against a homicidal mob boss (say, don't they usually alter your appearance when they put you in that program?) Curious over Gibson's furtive behavior, Hawn unknowingly sets herself up as a target for the bad guys. The whole affairs culminates in an after-hours showdown at a zoo (a plot device vastly improved upon in the 1996 Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle Eraser). While Bird on a Wire admittedly has its moments of enjoyment, most of the film is on a par with Gibson's embarrassing, homophobic scene with a pair of epicine hairdressers. And whoever heard of the Chinatown section of Racine, Wisconsin?

If you like comedy films - avoid this.

If there's a worse film out there then I've yet to see it. Endless Goldie Hawn squeals, screams and complaining and a script so exaggerated that even Jack from 24 wouldn't think it plausible.

Leave this well alone and hopefully Ms Hawn will retire for good.

Mr. Gibson's career seemed unharmed after this film but I bet he's has sleepless nights worrying how he could erase this from his CV.

    Director's name says it all

Bad ham it certainly is - a silly plot with wildly unrealistic situations which just aren't funny - a waste of fine acting talent, talent which sadly doesn't get a chance in this appalling film.
