Last days of steam
By a customer from Salisbury, England , 02 Feb 2009[Highly rated reviewer]
This DVD consists of three different films - the good news being that all were professionally produced with top-quality pictures and sound.
The first, 'Black Five', covers the last days of steam around Carnforth in 1968 and features mainly black fives & Stanier 8F's in action and on shed, while the commentary is supplied by the railwaymen who drove and fired them.
The second film is about the artist David Shepherd and covers the months in 1967 when he spent all his time at Nine Elms depot recording on canvas the final southern steam workings.
Both of these films are full of atmospheric shots of (mainly filthy and run-down) locomotives in action and on shed.
The final film lasts just ten minutes and features preserved GWR No. 6000 King George V running up and down a siding at Bulmers Ltd, Hereford, in 1970, and is rather boring compared to the preceding riches.- Was this review helpful to you?
