A great story with beautiful photograpy.
By a customer , 22 Nov 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
The story takes place at the beginning of 1900 when oil was discovered in Saudi arabia and it was divided in 2 . The north ruled by Emir Nasib an ambitious man who love money and the south by Sultan amar (Mark strong) who was just the opposite, wanted to live like in the old times. Later the story center in prince audi (Tahar Rahim) the son of Amar but raised by Nasib. He sudied and was very clever and was able to unite the 2 parts and the tribes creating a united country. The film is better than I expected it.- Was this review helpful to you?

(6)Super Black Gold
By Grumpybear (4 reviews) , 07 May 2013Must admit was a little bit dubious about this film, but it was very enjoyable, I was going to say superb, but that might have been egging it a little. Good cast, excellent acting, a real entertainer. Mind you I do like Desert Films.- Was this review helpful to you?

Decent viewing
By furelli (34 reviews) , 25 Feb 2013A good film, enough historical content to be of interest, a smattering of action sequences, plenty of eye candy for both sexes & beautiful photography throughout. Worth a watch.- Was this review helpful to you?

Crude oil epic
By Johnnyo (24 reviews) , 04 Feb 2013It doesn't do justice to its fascinating subject of the birth of Arab wealth and power due to the discovery of oil. Nicely filmed on a lavish budget but even a decent director like Annaud can't overcome a lifeless script bubbling over with clichéd situations and characters.- Was this review helpful to you?

Progress in the face of tradition
By a customer , 21 Jan 2013Much better than I was expecting. The film is particularly interesting when you consider the modern context in which Arabian oil changed these money-poor culture-rich people into millionaires in a very short time.- Was this review helpful to you?
