Sharply directed by Gil Junger, the Martin Lawrence comedy BLACK KNIGHT borrows its theme from A CONNECTICUT YANKEE AT KING ARTHUR'S COURT, with Mark Twain's Yankee being replaced by Jamal Walker (Lawrence). Jamal works at a decrepit California theme park in danger of being put out of business by a rival theme park. Cleaning .. Read more

For those who do not care a lot for Camelot, this could be your movie. It struggles to turn a loose version of Mark Twain's A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court into a suitable vehicle for comic Martin Lawrence, whose inconsistent performance doesn't help the cause a bit. Lawrence plays Jamal Walker, an underachieving employee at on-the-skids theme park Medieval World. After falling into a moat, he is magically zapped back to a 14th-century England that he initially fails to comprehend because they're all such good actors. Director Gil Junger seems unable to control Lawrence's tedious cheeky-chappy persona and leaves little room for laughs, action or other characters. Consequently, most audiences will be turned off by this derivative romp.
A sort of hip hop version of Mark Twain's venerable story of a modern man taken back in time that brings an occasional smile, though Martin Lawrence's humour does not travel well.
I found this to be very entertaining, mainly because it is SILLY! .............................. After watching the extras I just had to watch the film again.
I sat through this film thinking that it would only gain redemption if Martin Lawrence was spontaneously speared - preferably through the mouth, as that was the main source of irritation and unintelligable slang.
It is perfect for those who have no problems with their intelligence being insulted, or who don't care about such trifles as historical accuracy, or watching a bumbling tw*t spouting witless gibberish for the best part of two hours.
This is a good film for children, however, but only if they are very, very bad.
Black Knight is... well..., crap. It was painful to watch and boring. The script was poor, full of American slang 'Yo'll dog!' etc, the acting was pathetic, the direction was terrible. I think that you get the message?
The DVD has special features, but due to the fact the film was so bad, I didn't watch them. Straight back in the post. The film does offer Director Commentary, yeah right...
My recommendation, don't bother. 2 hours of my life I can't get back.
IT HAS ITS MOMENTS BUT ALL IN ALL ITS QUITE A LOAD OF GIBBERISH, YOU CAN NOT UNDERSTAND HALF OF WHAT MARTIN LAWRENCE IS SAYING AND THE ACTING REMINDS ME OF A 'B' MOVIE, THE KIDS WILL PROBABLY LOVE IT.
I watched this with my 12 year old son and we really laughed. Martin Lawrence films always have the feel good factor and this one is no exception. Not his very best film, but by no means as bad as some of the reviews suggest.

Yea its far fetched, but so are most films. Its funny, maybe not so orginal. Martin Lawrence's acting was great as usual.

I just think that Martin is hilarious in any film he's in and this is no exception. Would of liked it to of ended a little better though, left you wondring if there would be a sequel. would recommend a viewing.
I did not have much expectations from this film, thought it was just a run of the mill type. However, I was gladly proved wrong - Martin was at his best for a long time.
Definitely worth a look!
I rented 'Black Knight' for my kids and they loved it. Adults etc will find it quite boring, but there are even a few jokes in there for us. Basically, this is a kids film, a proper fairy-tale.
Martin Lawrence suffers greatly without his comedy partner Will Smith and a larger portion of that miseryis passed onto the viewer. Martin, sadly, is the more annoying half of the ingrating Bad Boys duo and by himself does not hold the screen comfortably, he mugs and capers through the film using American slang that I do not understand but medieval peasants seem to get without effort. Admittedly this is a film for the kids but parents should carefully consider their actions and the consequences of making innocent eyes watch this sh*t.
