Definitely the best of...By skeadugenga (148 reviews) from Reading , 20 Sep 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]Definitely the best of the Blackadders when it hit TV because it was so stunningly original (lets write a sitcom about Richard 111 - hmmm). And because of the great comic creation of Baldrick - the family obviously peaked around 1485 and went downhill after that. So many highlights that you can't think of only one without it setting off a list. Still brilliant. Especially Elspeth Gray as the Queen...and the Black Russian codpiece...and the Infanta of Spain..and the baby eating bishop of Bath and Wells...and Percy...and... Oh, and its all true about Henry V11 - he was a wimp who hid at the back of the battlefield..

We're in the stickiest situation since Sticky the stick insect got stuck on a sticky bun.By Fitz42 (161 reviews) from Darwen , 05 May 2012You wouldn't recognize a cunning plan if it painted itself purple and danced naked on top of a harpsichord singing 'Cunning plans are here'.

Simply the bestBy clinton13 (14 reviews) from Moira , 07 May 2011Classic comedy. Every time I watch this I laugh my head off and believe me I have watched it many times.
Not as funny as the others...By Rayon (17 reviews) , 13 Apr 2011Apart from the bit with the Infanta's translator and the bloke galloping past on the donkey, it's all pretty hit and miss with this series. It lacks the sense of place and verbal sophistication of its later incarnations, and even the lavotorial jokes are weedy in comparison to the mighty Blackadder 2. If you've watched and loved the others then you'll watch this anyway, but you're unlikely to want to give it a second viewing.
Blackadder Series 1By Tessy (4 reviews) from Dorset , 16 Feb 2011Really awful. Couldn't wait to return it.
Mr Bean meets amateur pantomine.
I know the rest of the series is brilliant though cos they changed the writers. Can't wait.
