Definitely the best of...By skeadugenga (148 reviews) from Reading , 20 Sep 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]Definitely the best of the Blackadders when it hit TV because it was so stunningly original (lets write a sitcom about Richard 111 - hmmm). And because of the great comic creation of Baldrick - the family obviously peaked around 1485 and went downhill after that. So many highlights that you can't think of only one without it setting off a list. Still brilliant. Especially Elspeth Gray as the Queen...and the Black Russian codpiece...and the Infanta of Spain..and the baby eating bishop of Bath and Wells...and Percy...and... Oh, and its all true about Henry V11 - he was a wimp who hid at the back of the battlefield..

Just getting startedBy a customer from Wirral , 26 Aug 2009An interesting series, since this is where it all began. Famously, Baldrick is the intelligent one and the Black Adder is a Mr. Bean-like character. This doesn't work especially well (compared to the later stuff) but it is great to see both Brian Blessed and the great Peter Cook being consistently over-the-top.
An absolute classicBy a customer from London , 19 May 2009A brillent piece of work, a complete british institution, which will be ever lasting in history. the start of an excellent series with many quotes that you can use in day to day conversation
