Funnier than a strange shaped turnip!
By davecas from Middx , 21 Jun 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
What can I say about this series? Clearly the best comedy program on TV, and the second series, set in Tudor times, is the best.
Blackadder as a lord in the court of Queen Elisabeth 1st; conniving, scheming and very, very clever.
Cutting off heads, sailing round the cape of good hope and getting married to a servant called Bob! Its all in here, including the best portrayal of any queen in the history of TV. Rent it, laugh your socks off!- Was this review helpful to you?

History is comedy....
By Bauman (4 reviews) , 11 Dec 2011This is STILL fantastic stuff! The script and performances are superb. A farcical look at a period in history, but humour like this often has a serious edge to it beneath the gags and laughter. A comedy gem that still stands up well decades on.- Was this review helpful to you?

Blackadder Two - The long winter evenings will fly by!
By Valiant016 (52 reviews) from Lytham St. Annes , 08 Jun 2011Hey nonny nonny, classic Blackadder, probably the best series of the four!
Introduced and underlined such great lines as:-
'I have a cunning plan', Baldrick.
'Who's Queen', Queen Elizabeth 1st
'Flash by name, flash by nature', Lord Flashheart.
'We are up to here with gloaters' Lord Percy
Blackadder as a character is a despicable, cowardly, toad who is constantly bullied by the Queen, annoyed by Baldrick and Percy and overshadowed by Lord Flashheart.
His anguish and failed ingenuity are brilliantly funny.
If you have never seen it then watch it now, price only one turnip or some pure green!- Was this review helpful to you?

Dated and 2 dimensional
By a customer from London , 24 Aug 2010Ok we all love it---we have to love it--- but heretical as it is to say - the truth is that the humour relies on a selection of similes ... 'you're like..'
'He's like....'
Percy.. you have all the wit of....'
(insert silly phrase here.)
....and once you're heard them all the 2 dimensional characterisations are all we have left. I found myself turning it off.
Richard Curtis is good at foppish one-liners in a middle class way - but his work dates, doesn't speak of universal truths and will be quickly forgotten.- Was this review helpful to you?

Does this series need any more praise
By a customer from Blackingham Palace , 29 Apr 2010Brilliant.
Particularly the turnip one - and also 'Head'
I still prefer the first series though.- Was this review helpful to you?
