The Greatest Sci Fi Film Ever Made
By sassyschoolmarm from Avon , 08 Dec 2003[Highly rated reviewer]
"Bladerunner" is a film that shaped the way I think. There are not many films you can say that about. Based on a novel by Philip K. Dick called 'Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?', the film explores a dystopic future where the unwanted members of humanity live in polluted, murky and grossly overcrowded megacities. The golden children are whipped away from Earth to the planetary colonies to escape the degradation. Above the filth, the Tyrell Corporation churns out androids to cater to the whims of humans. What happens when a group of androids (that are very difficult to tell apart from humans) decide they are destined for something better and go on a murderous rampage? Easy, you hire a bounty hunter to wipe them out. In a startlingly intelligent examination of humanity's treatment towards what are considered lower lifeforms, you will find yourself rooting for both the bounty hunter and the androids - weird.
Harrison Ford is good as Deckard but the standout is Rutger Hauer as Roy Battey, the android leader. If you have dry eyes in his last scene, well, you're not human! Beautiful model work and a scorching soundtrack by Vangelis ensure the elevation of this film in to the ranks of the divine and holy!- Was this review helpful to you?

(188)Best ever sci-fi film
By Navydonald (1 review) , 13 May 2013It works on so many levels, the visual effects are obviously a bit dated. So what! It is a science fiction love story that makes you think about the meaning of life and redemption.- Was this review helpful to you?

Tears in the rain
By RJNeb2 (923 reviews) from London , 02 Apr 2013Some films are like fine wines and simply get better and better as the years roll on. Blade Runner is such a film. Years ahead of its time, now its mix of dazzling visuals, downbeat style and constrained emotions is perfectly suited for our own more cynical times. Set in a dystopian LA in the future, it finds bounty hunter (or blade runner) Ford out to nail a set of rogue replicants. But the plot is merely incidental. What youre seeing here is director Scott displaying astonishing technique in only his third film. The performances mesh completely with his vision (even Youngs blank beauty is perfectly atuned). This is sensory overload, and its rarely been bettered.- Was this review helpful to you?

An intersting experience
By a customer , 28 Mar 2013I thought the film was pretty average, however, as it is very old, the blu-ray conversion is very good and it has good effects for an old film. Plus I did think that the underlying story with regards the replicants was haunting and makes you think a lot about our own place in this world. Overall, a good watch.- Was this review helpful to you?

2019 is so 1984
By Roddenberry (31 reviews) from Bristol , 08 Mar 2013Finally got around to Bladerunner and it is really, really good. It's also flawed, some parts haven't aged well and even though I allow for that, it felt far too eighties for a film set in 2019. Lots of really good performances, Edward James Olmos steals every scene he's in. Wouldn't mind seeing a re-make though and I rarely think that of good films.- Was this review helpful to you?

The Gold standard for Sci fi.
By Bobsview (554 reviews) from Gloucestershire , 11 Feb 2013Harrison Ford . In my opinion perhaps the best Sci Fi movie ever made. Brilliant. Amazing graphics and sets. Haunting and atmospheric. A movie classic. A film I watch every year.- Was this review helpful to you?
