Blade: Trinity

As an apocalyptic event takes place that could shift the control of the planet Earth from the hands of humanity to the claws of vampires, the Daywalker, Blade (Snipes) is the only person who can turn the tide of the crisis against the undead blood suckers and prevent the world from becoming a "Planet of the Vampires". To make things a lot harder for Blade, the vampire leadership launches a public relations "smear campaign" against Blade, letting the world of humans know that he exists, so that the police start hunting him down, thinking he is some sort of horrible monster.

A Blade by any other name...

The third outing for Blade comes across like a straight to video action movie.

Wesley Snipes just looks plain bored for the majority of the movie, there are a few too many one liners and don't get me started on Dracula.... Christopher Lee he most certainly is not.

The story goes that originally Blade 3 was going to take place in a world where Vampires had all but taken over, leaving Blade and a few reluctant survivors to save mankind. Now that would have been a worthy follow up.

A shame then that we have to sit through an old Buffy episode for ninety minutes with very little new or refreshing going for it.

It does have its moments. Some of the action is kinda cool, Ryan Reynolds gets the odd good gag and there's an inspired comedy moment involving vampire dogs.

But that's pretty much it. Wesley Snipes phones in his performance, Jessica Biel just looks pretty and hey, I really do got to get myself one of those iPod gadgets. Product placement of the highest calibre. Blade Trinity isn't a bad movie, it just isn't a Blade movie.

Blade is dulled by awful script

Deary me. Who ever wrote the script for this is in severe need of expanding their vocabulary. This film seems to have a fetish for words involving body parts, usually vulgar ones, and acts of major violence. I’m no prude but after the umpteenth “major butt f***ing“ had escaped someone’s lips I longed for a word with more than two syllables to break the monotony. They’ve even re named Dracula, who for this movie resembles a Gallic bouncer, “Drake”. Must be because he’s a right Charlie.

Wesley Snipes is as wooden as ever as Blade but at least he doesn’t join in the expletetive/ brutality fest. The plots preposterous as usual too ( Where does everybody get their money to run these covert organisations? ) and is merely a convenient way to segue from one round of high octane visceral action to the next. All the characters look really cool , with their militaristic outfits and high tech weaponry so there are plenty of those slow mo sequences to gnash your teeth through and if the abysmal script doesn’t drive you to distraction the lamentable acting will.

That said, if you can try to ignore its glaring deficiencies Blade Trinity is shamefully entertaining. The action scenes are well handled when not in slow motion and by sheer law of averages the script does throw up the odd choice line. “Blood sucking Pomeranians“ indeed.

    Biel's 'girl crush' on Garner

    • 12 Nov 2009

Jessica Biel admires Ben Affleck's taste in women - she has been harbouring a 'girl crush' on his Hollywood actress wife Jennifer Garner. The Blade: Trinity star, who is dating pop star Justin Timberlake, admits she's intrigued by the married mother-of-two, her glamorous looks and envious film career. However, 27-year-old Biel insists she's no competition for Affleck, because her admiration for Garner is purely platonic. She explains, "My girl crush is Jen Garner at the moment (but) here's the Read more
