Most helpful review Blake's 7 - Series 2

  • a bit of a let down

    [Highly rated reviewer]

after a relatively interesting first series (though hardly a total rip-snorter), this second series is an enormous let-down

each episode struggles to hold interest for the full 50 minutes (often losing-steam within the first 10 minutes) - the acting reaches new heights of HAM - the dialogue between the baddies tries to aspire to Shakespeare, but the only 'Richard the Third' I could think of was rhyming-slang - the plots were unimaginative (land on planet - have a run in with baddies - escape)

to be honest, I couldn't care less if any of the 'heroes' lived or died

  • Daft, Sarcastic, Laughable Dated Memories!! Great!!

The further I get into the series, the more I enjoy it. My favourite characters are Viller and Avon. I like Viller as he's just so daft I can't help but laugh at him...Avon because I find his sarcasm funny to.

Roll on the rest of the series!! I don't mind that the series is dated, of course it would be, how could it not!! I loved it when I was a kid so had to give it a shot!! Oh such memories, ha ha!!

  • Grumpy, Sarcastic British Sci-Fi at its Best

Love this series... ok the sets might be rubbish, the effects laughable but put that to one side for a moment and just enjoy the dialogue and story lines. This is how the British do sci-fi well, in fighting amongst the crew, sarcarsm, realistic characters (not perfect shining models of society) - and that is what makes Blakes 7 so watchable still.

  • too many writers after series 1

    Rated - 3.5 stars

The first series had only one writer. the 2nd, 3rd and 4th had several writers and this is why the series suffers.

This is why later series had a mixed bag of good, okay and bad episodes.

  • Bit of a mixed bag.

This series of Blake's 7 is a bit hit and miss. the last episodes I saw were like The Manchurian Candidate, where Blake is pre-programmed to go to some asteroid and find somebody who turns out to be Travis, Blake's nemesis. the next episode ran like a weird version of CABARET (1972), where Blake gets information on a fugitive and Avon and Villa use Orac to break the house casino. The last episode, The Keeper I can barely remember watching - something about Mideval kings and a very boring episode. I hope the next episodes are better.

With the episodes: Star One. With Travis already on his way to Star One and Blake's Crew on their way as well to destroy it, the scene is set for the final conflict between Travis and Blake. I won't tell about the actual end of Travis, but he certainly won't be bothering anyone ever again. On arrival at Star One, Blake and Cally discover that Travis has planned to betray the human race for some time now and has entered into an alliance of sorts with the very alien Andromedans and as the episode closes, the war begins! A very suitable ending for the 2nd Series and it also explains the start of Series 3 - for those who have seen Series 3, you'll know how it goes - and for those who haven't, I won't spoil the very nice surprise. The Extras on this disc should be watched and the DVD compares favorably with other similar titles.
