Blue Bloods - Series 1

This series is so good it is ridiculous. Selleck, Wahlberg, Moynahan...what a great cast. Even the kid actors are amazing.

The name 'BLUE Bloods' is possibly the smartest thing about this series. 'Blue', because the series is (a) effectively a right wing propaganda drive, and (b) about a family with three generations of men serving in the New York Police Dept (the men in blue).

At the heart of this series is the Reagan family (coincidental namesakes to former Republican president, I don't know) who simply cannot do anything wrong and set an example to the rest of the city in their moral fortitude. If there is a danger of one of the family members stepping out of line, don't worry, one of the elder statesmen- the current and former Police Commissioners- (Selleck/Cariou) is always present to offer some sage advice, occasionally with a little anecdote about how things 'used to be different'. These discussions invariably take place over Sunday dinner where four generations of Reagans debate the issue-du-jour. The other key family members include: Danny (Wahlberg)- a hard nosed, street wise, no-nonsense detective; Jamie (Estes) - the qualified lawyer turned rookie cop; and Erin (Moynahan), who -as a woman- can't be on the front line of fighting crime and is, therefore, the glamorous assistant DA.

If you like having family values, respect for your elders (and authority!), zero tolerance to crime and 'doing the RIGHT thing' generously sprinkled over a fairly standard police procedural drama, then this is for you. If not, you will find some of content simply laugh-out-loud funny in it's lack of subtlety. At least the makers have managed to keep religion out of the series to a large part.

The acting is good and the production values make this series watchable if you simply want a bit of light Friday night escapism, just don't expect to have to think too hard about it.

Blue Bloods is amazing, loved Series 1 cant wait for Series 2 to be available to rent - great actors, lovely to see Tom Selleck on screen again, Donnie Wahlberg is brilliant

This is an absolutely brilliant series. Tom Selleck and Donny Wahlberg are fantastic.

Highly recommended!
