Blue Crush

Set among the white beaches and thunderous waves of Hawaii's North Shore, BLUE CRUSH is an adrenaline-drenched surf picture that boasts a star-making performance from Kate Bosworth. Bosworth is Anne Marie, a determined surfer who shares a beachside shack with her best friends Eden (Michelle Rodriguez) and Lena (Sanoe Lake), and younger sister Penny (Mika Boorem). Just days away from the infamous Rip Masters surfing contest, Anne Marie's life is thrown into turmoil. After being fired from her housekeeping job at a luxury resort hotel, she is courted by the hunky NFL quarterback Matt Tollman (Matthew Davis). As she tries to contain the wild emotions that are threatening to overwhelm her, Anne Marie tries to come to terms with a surfing accident from her past that nearly killed her. In order to survive the contest's deadly, crushing waves, Anne Marie must reach deep within herself to find the courage necessary to come out on top. With BLUE CRUSH, director John Stockwell gives the audience what they want: bikinis, music, romance, and surfing. His picture is graced with David Hennings' gorgeous photography, which captures the beauty and the excitement of the immensely popular sport.

This is a “crush”, as in romance or obsession, with surfing and the sea. Unlike the usual babes-in-bikinis epics, it looks at the reality behind an adrenaline-fuelled life on the ocean wave (although still with enough gloss to make it attractive). Inspired by Orchid Thief author Susan Orlean's magazine article Surf Girls of Maui, the film centres on three girls (Kate Bosworth, Michelle Rodriguez and Sanoe Lake) who work at a luxury Hawaiian resort in order to support their surf addiction. Bosworth is the favourite to win the upcoming tournament and — the ultimate dream — turn pro, but she has distractions: a kid sister to look after and a budding romance with a visiting American football player. Director John Stockwell provides the expected exciting wave action, and brilliantly shot it is, too, but he rarely loses sight of the toil and turmoil that accompanies the dream.

Good-looking romantic fable with a gritty edge and much sand, sea and bikini-clad beauties, though no doubt it's meant to be about female empowerment.

    Blue Crush

Very much a 'girlie does good and beats her demons' all American teen flick. Having said that it was good, clean, action packed, easy watching with some gorgeous body beautifuls parading on the beach.

The beach and onset location scenes provide a visual feast for anyone looking for idyllic places in the sun. The female bonding plots explain a great deal to us unsuspecting males, who always fail to appreciate the inner strengths females find in each other despite the constant lure of romance, as the ultimate distraction. But which one wins?

The deleted scenes section added to the enjoyment with the Director (John Stockwell) giving a real insight on how to make a movie work and create a real impact.

Watch this and relax it won't tax your brain cells but you will feel better at the end, despite a little twist!

Its definately a feel good movie where thinking isnt required. Probably the most impressive and worthhile features are the cinematography of the movie. The way in which it was filmed gives you a thrilling insight to being a surfer and to surfing the waves.

Easy going fun loving one to watch.
